This book is marvelous. A girl also loves her books. She carries all of them around with her everywhere she goes. She doesn’t lend them out either. They start to weigh her down the more she collects. She loves them all and read all over them more than once.
One day, she takes a spill and it starts to rain. A librarian helps her into the dry library where she sees the magic of all the books. She is awed by the potential stories. She gets a library card and the rest is history.
The artwork is fabulous. The artist seems to love books also. The library is beautiful, cozy and the read wants to visit just to read there among all the cozy readers. She used pencil, watercolor and digital for the art.
It’s all comes together to make a perfect story. This is a new favorite.

The ghost tries and scare all the kids away from the library. He sees a girl engrossed in a book and tries to scare her. She tells him to pipe down, this chapter is too good to stop. He gets angry. The ghost can't read. So, this girl teaches him to read. Yes, the story is about reading.
I'm so glad I was able to read this book this year. I love it. I love all the orange books that stand out in this store.

The artwork is fabulous. There are all the normal Halloween monsters around looking for books. We are in some sort of Halloween town and the artwork is magical. It's spooky and safe at the same time. You can almost feel the cobwebs.
We see a kid who stumbles into the local book store after finding a key. The owner tells the kid, there is a book for everyone. The kid wants to find his book, but first he helps all the customers find their books. One book loses a dragon on the store. That's handled and then it's storytime.
Such a warm and welcoming book. I just loved it. I think every kid can find something they love in this. Plus, it's about a library and books. Any book lover is going to cherish this story. It's strange, books about books and reading are the best....more

A fairy and a troll find a baby in the woods. The fairy thinks the troll wants to eat the baby. Neither will let the other have the baby, so they decide to raise the baby together. It's a magical world with spells and flying brooms and carpets.
There are funny moments and there are some real sweet moments.
I had no idea this was a fantasy. IT was a surprise. I don't think it's Asian either. There was no translator. That doesn't matter.

It's about Patience & Fortitude, the lions that sit outside the New York City public library. One day, the sun was about to come up and Patience was not back on his plinth yet. Fortitude was worried about his friend. He goes looking inside the library for him. So, we then see the famous statues and pieces of art and rooms that are inside the library.
Finally, Fortitude finds Patience in the children's room reading stories and lost in a book. They make it back outside just before the sun comes up.
This story was so cool. It had a feeling of real magic to it. I mean libraries with their labyrinthine innards have a magic feel to them anyway, at least a big one. The lions moving around in them just felt right. It's sort of a polite Night at the Museum sort of story
The artwork was digital. It felt warm and like it wanted us to explore the library. The colors were cozy and drew the reader in. One page looked like Escher.
I have seen Patience & Fortitude in person, but I don't think I went into the library. Now, I wish I had. Great story. I think kids might be intrigued. ...more

I have to admit, I thought one of the reasons not to bring a dragon to the library would be so the books don't catch fire, but that was never mentioned. haha. Score one for Julie Gassman.
This is a fun and lighthearted way to learn about library etiquette. The librarian gives reasons not to bring your dragon and they are all ways to be courteous around people.

She checks it out over and over. She thinks the animals are funny and cute. It's time to go to the library again and she wants to check it out once again. Funny thing is the book isn't there. Lola gets sad and all she wants is her book. Charlie tries to help her find another book since it is the library. He goes through all the different things one can read. Finally Lola gives a monkey book a try and now this is the best book in the world.
Isn't that kids. They have their mind set on something and that's what they want. I guess we partially grow out of that and some things we sort of stay that way. It can be hard to change and do things out of our routine. I've gotten where Wednesday night is french fry night. It's all I want for dinner.

The pictures of people sitting around the library reading are amazing. I love it. Sadly, at most libraries now days, kids sit around playing video games. In Baltimore, each library has a game system and there is always a kid or teen sitting there playing.

I will say, it felt like this was written for middle school age and then they kept throwing in f-bombs all over the place. I guess it's for young adult, but it felt so young to me. It was an odd mix.
I've learned something about myself. The angst that comes from "does he like me or not" sort of bores me. That part is just to get through so we can get to the relationship. There are sugar moments in that, of course, but it's simply the appetizer. What I really love is when both parties are in a relationship. That's the stuff right there. This is one of those stories where the couple never communicated really and almost didn't find each other. At the end, they kiss, story over. Yes, they were best friends before that, but it's not the same. This story ended just when it was getting good.
I was very hopeful about this story, really. There were interesting ideas in it, but all of it seemed very simple.

OK, This is cute. Does it bring anything new to the genre of high school awakening. No.
This also covers, probably my least favorite part of all a relationship genre brings (how they meet). This is the main couple meeting and figuring things out in their head. There isn't even that much tension with it either. This story was written back in 2014, so it's an older story now and the genre has progressed since then.
The story ends when they both declare they "Like each other". I mean, that's the point the story and the relationship actually gets interesting. This is like the prologue to the real story. IN the epilogue, we do get one half-hearted sort of kiss.
I guess, this is teaching me I like stories about relationships, not so much how they start. That's not nearly as interesting to me as the actual relationship. I want to see them together.
This isn't a bad story, simply not a story for me. I gave it 3 stars because it's fine. For me, the author missed the real story and this is only the prelude to the real story....more

The book is crankI think children will think this idea is cute. I actually had high hopes for this book as being something funny and sort of cutting.
The book is cranky and doesn't want to be read until the reader is about to leave. There is a library the book lives and other books come out and want to tell stories. The idea was thin and could have been a bit fleshed out more. As an adult, this is a 2 star book while I think kids will find it funny, so it gets 3 stars.

This is a 240 page story and she does so much within those few pages. I love her ideas on love. I love the French mountains she sets the story in and the end of the 60s in France. I got to learn something about French history as well.
Love is personified as a person. We also meet Marie-Jeanne who is the only one able to see Love. She has the ability to see where love has touched us and how that affects the person we are supposed to love. It's so amazing. I love this story.
She explores how different love it, how we can stop love from happening and how our fear keeps us from experiencing love fully. It's so well done how she shows her characters in love. Nina has the gift of an author. How she describes things is magic. She describes human emotions in a way anyone can understand. We see her characters so human, so real.
I might have to read this again some day. What a delight this book was. I couldn't put it down.
In one paragraph she mentions that Love and Hate used to be considered essential elements to life like Fire and Water, etc. Over time, this was lost. What a pity. I do think Love is an element of life. For certain.
I highly recommend you give it a try and see what you think about love. No one can really know love, even when we are in it. It's the great mystery....more

The story is very cute. A cat loves pictures books and finds it's way into a public library. The librarian keeps putting the cat out, saying no cats allowed. Well sure, cats are smelly and pee on everything. Why not get a rabbit instead. They are cute and sweet.
Turns out kids love to read to animals. The kids love reading to the cat and once the librarian sees this, she says reading cats are allowed. Again, why a smelly cat. Get a reading rabbit instead. A much better choice, although, they may want to snack on your books, so be careful.
