I do disagree with the author on Bulb. She says it tastes purple, but no. It short and muddy. It's a brown word. Precocious is a purple word I believe. Anyway.
The alligator actually swallows the vowels and then words have no vowels. It's so interesting to see these words like ppl with no vowels. That's apple btw. A brilliant study on the words.
She gives games to play in the back with words like words spells with all the vowels such as tambourine. Fun right.
The artwork is fine. The animals are cute, accept the creepy alligator. I don't get children's author's using alligators. Whatever. It didn't say what was used to create the art, but it looks like pen and acrylics.

It's all back and forth and Cat finally scares Duck to not go on it. That's when the story turns. It's a nice little story. A simple story about friendship and facing your fears.

His store must be in a bad part of town or something because all these gangsters keep coming in and wanting things for free and being bullies. I have to say, I would be looking for another job. I just sounds scary to me. That's asking for trouble.
One night, a guy is demanding a bunch of free stuff and Eui-joon is wishing a hero shows up. Then Gunwooj does show up. He hits the guy and knocks him out saying he took too long.
Eui-joon has drama at school and his family is a wreck and his brother is in the hospital, so there is lots of stress, but Eui-Joon is still so sweet and sparkly. He has a great personality and deals with it all amazing.
Eventually, He and Gunwooj begin talking. Gunwooj seems to be a great listening as Eui-joon just talks about anything. Eui-Joon suspects Gunwooj is a gangster of some kind.
They become neighbors somehow. Gunwooj seems to be in the wrong building. It doesn't fit him.
This volume was pretty great. I look forward to volume 2.

This book was funny. I enjoyed the humor.
The artwork was created with watercolor, gouache and colored pencils. The niece’s desperation and longing for freedom from the quilt museum was very funny. The artist has a good sense of humor.
I hope there is a sequel. I want to see what the uncles were like.

After Tsugumi is almost bitten on the neck, the boys decide to mate and then get married. Megumi wants his dad’s blessing.
There is a great fight scene with ten guys are trying to bully Megumi. It was so awesome. It cements them as a couple. Who can’t love them after that.
There is also a chapter of Tsugumi’s dad’s after they got married that was well done. They work way too hard in Japan. It’s insane. No wonder their population is dropping.
This was a great volume. I am just loving this story. I look forward to the next volume ...more

By watching and learning from the kitten, he feels better. The kitten does come around.
The artwork is watercolor, ink and digital. The relationship set up with the art is fantastic. You can gradually see them getting closer together as time goes on. Their prickliness comes through the artwork so well.
A great story about accepting our own prickly nature. I can certainly have mine.

We see two people, a girl and a monster looking tiger playing together. The text talks about how much fun they had and that the person was real to me. We know we are in imaginary friend territory. It’s such a wonderful little story.
The one person left is so sad and missing their friend. Why did they go away? There was so much fun. Why did it come to an end?
Kids who love imagination and fantastic stories will love this. It’s a ground breaking work. This is one of my favorite books of the year and I would put it on Caldecott watch.

So, the neat thing about this book is that there is a twist. We aren’t following the girl, we are following the imaginary friend. We see how lonely the friend is and it doesn’t understand why the girl left. It meets other imaginary friends at the end to be friends with, but it’s not the same thing. He always wonders what his girl is up to.

The story just shows different people of different tribes wearing their unique tribe mocs at schools and other places. Each tribe has different designs so you can tell their tribe by their feet. I had no idea and it makes sense.
The artwork is very bright and happy and the moccasins are very pretty.
I’m worried about our native friends. My co-worker is Cherokee and she is scared. She has been told if both your parents are full blooded native, then you are no longer a US citizen. She’s like, “What does that make me? My family has never lived anywhere else.� The government is doing this to steal land that belongs to the natives, especially the Navajo where there is oil. It’s horrible. I expected a lot of horror, but this attack was a surprise. We don’t want to lose the Natives. They bring so much wisdom to our empty culture.

It’s a book to let kids know it’s okay to have feelings. I love this one episode of 'Everybody Loves Raymond.' Debra got everyone out of the house and she put on a sad movie and cried. I love that. Sometimes I just need a good cry. It feels like a good release.

It turns out to be one of the ugliest snowmen every with grass in it and all wonky and yet, to the boy, it's perfect. When we put our love into something, the imperfections no longer matter. Isn't that interesting.
When you think of the world that way, our world really has a lot of work to do.
The art is charcoaled pencil and colored digitally. The art is fine. It hits the humor of the snowman home great, but it doesn't really get across the magic of a snow day.

This tells the story of a boy who’s family speaks Spanish. His grandmother tells him when she was in school, they were punished for speaking Spanish at school at all. They were made to feel very bad. She was so happy that the grandson was entering a spellling Bee.
Some of the best parts of this book are the last two pages where they lay out all sorts of facts about that time period for Spanish speakers.
Most of Europe speaks two to four languages and most of Asian is bilingual as well. I really believe that America needs to work on our Bilingual issue. Know more than one language makes you smarter in ways. I believe it’s a failing of our education system. I think kids from the beginning be learning different languages. It would help us internationally. It’s so important in my view.
In my school we got two years of a language only. I chose French. I took two years in high school and two years in college. I’m not fluent. Now, I’m interested in Mandarin and Japanese. Anyway.
The artwork is finished in digital. The colors were sort of dull and there was nothing to bring the story to life. I wasn’t a fan of the artwork really. It didn’t enhance to story, not that inside a school is easy to keep from being depressing.

It’s also about the seasons of life. As she got older, he did too and eventually he had to downsize and move into an apartment with a few potted plants. Then her daughter learned to garden.
A lovely representation of the seasons of life we go through with a garden to show us the way. I admit, I love stuff like this. Gardens are special and it connects us to the seasonal flow

In the back, they tell the different versions of the stories they used.
Rabbit is the care taker for the moon and she keeps the light going. Possum wants to taste the light and so drinks it leaving the sky dark. Now there is no light. So Possum goes inside the Earth and pulls out fire and gives us the sun.
The artwork is so stylish and the colors pop. There is a huge emphasis on light and dark. It's lovely. It is acrylics and oil paints later made digital. The art is cool.
