Nice artwork by Tomie. He uses nice colors and the whole thing is laid out very well. It's a beautiful book if you want to read you're kid these old rhymes. Some still delight while others miss....more

I love that this little boy helping this mouse is so tuckered out. He just can't keep up with a mouse. I wonder if that would work with my nephew. He watches too much TV , so at bed time, he is very energized. He doesn't get enough movement out during the day. Anyway.

So, it's about finding that balance. I thought the story did a good job with that balance.
This was more drama filled and less funny. It was still a fun book.
The nephew read this with me. He thought the airplane they flew in the field looked cool and he wanted one like it. He wants a drone. I told him he's too young for a drone, and he informed me that he wasn't and I am too old for a drone. Okay. He thought it was a rather slow Bears' story and not very funny. A rather odd story and yet I do like it. Annie has been through a long winter and everything is covered in snow. She plays with her cat and one day thA rather odd story and yet I do like it. Annie has been through a long winter and everything is covered in snow. She plays with her cat and one day the fat lazy cat runs away. Annie misses someone to play with so she begins making corn cakes and leaving them by the edge of the wood trying to lure something to play with. In the borders, we see Annie’s cat living in a tree about to give birth. Annie, before long, has a herd of unruly beasts eating her corn cakes and wanting more.
Jan’s artwork is amazing here. I love the moose and the bobcat. The artwork is so beautiful as you would expect from Jan. She has such an eye for those tiny details. I just love her artwork. Never fear, Annie gets her cat back.

If there was a way to get our kids doing chores, I would suggest this at our house, but I don’t think it would work. You can ask the niece to do something and she wont do it so I don’t know how you can get her to do extra chores either. The nephew is pretty much the same. The best one was when he was riding his baby brother around. The nephew laughed and laughed at that.
This has great ideas, but it doesn’t feel like William Joyce’s best work. It’s not bad, I just felt like it didn’t have the William sparkle I’m so used to. It’s still a cute book and worth a read.

Kweeks are a sort of bird stuck on an island with one tree source and it’s every bird for himself. They fight over food. Quentin, a bird, decides they need to start working together and share food. They never really get there, but he faces down the bully who got all the food and got real big and mean. The birds are starving as the bully eats everything now. They decide to confront the bully all together, but only Quentin attacks and is chased around the little island until he is pushed to a cliff. The bird discovers that being starved, he is able to fly.
It doesn’t really work. The birds try and organize and it never happens. They never work together. One brave bird has to do all this on his own. They never learn how to work together. It’s a fail. They do get off the island where food is plentiful, at least all but the bully. The bully is stuck on the island, to big to fly.
The verse is rhyming and I enjoy his lines. I think he is trying to be like Dr. Seuss here. He doesn’t quite make it. The artwork is pure Bill Peet, but the story let me down. It needed more work. I love what I have read so far, but this is low on my Bill Peet list.

Winter is one of my favorite times of year. I’m glad this book is here. I think these little books are beautiful and the poems are fun to read. It is a great little book to enhance the mood of the season and remember the plants that make them up. I do want to collect all these books.

What a wonderful whimsical wistful story. I simply adore this book and I see it was a Reading Rainbow book as well. I wonder if I read this as a kid. What a wonderful whimsical wistful story. I simply adore this book and I see it was a Reading Rainbow book as well. I wonder if I read this as a kid. I think I did, but I’m not sure. What a premise; one day, out of the blue, Imogene wakes up with a large rack of antlers on her head. She deals with it really well, but what I love is how the people around her deal with it. The maid has her sit down next to the stove to dry out all the towels draped over her antlers. Cracks me up. The cook loads up the antlers with donuts to go out and feed the birds. Her mother keeps fainting and then calls a milliner to create a hat for her. It looks like a giant seashell that Aphrodite would come out of the ocean in. I just love it all. The best is the next day she wakes up normal, without antlers, but then we find she has grown something else. It’s wonderful.
The thing I find especially interesting about this is that Imogene is a little girl growing antlers which male animals would have. Obviously, that doesn’t matter, but it is interesting. This book lifted my spirits and I want to own this TREASURE. I think it’s about seeing the world through different perspectives. One day, you can't be the same old person you were, you stand out and what can you learn.
The nephew loved this book. He wondered if its really possible to wake up with that. He would boss everyone around and get his way, he said, if he had that. Scary. We laughed enough to get the niece interested and she read this on her own. The nephew gave this 5 stars with me and the niece gave this 4 stars....more

The nephew loved this one. Our dog is rather wild, like my nephew and he sees the nephew as more of a pup and treats him that way. The nephew spent the puppy years pinching the fire out of the dog and the dog nips back, so it’s not the best relationship even though the nephew really loves the dog. He wants a dog that will mind him and be good to him. He gave this 4 stars....more

This is the story of Jonah and the Whale or Jonah and the fish as told in the bible. There is a lot of information at the end of the story and Jonah is also in the Koran. He is told to go to Nineveh, which was thought of as the greatest city in the world at that time. To me, the most memorable thing is Jonah being swallowed by the whale. That was like a page and not much was made of that here.
What strikes me with this story is that Jonah tells Nineveh to change their evil ways and amazingly, the city does. They totally repent and God spares them. This upsets Jonah. He wanted them to be destroyed. I find that so interesting. To see a whole city repent that way from one prophet is pretty amazing. Can you imagine one person walking into New York and saying to repent and mend your evils ways and everyone putting on sack clothes and repenting? I can’t. Anyway, now the city is simply ruins.
This is a nice story of Jonah. It does make me wonder what ‘evil� the people were doing. There is no definition of what it was. Was it slavery? How people treated one another? Idol worship? This story did not elaborate. You can’t change behavior if you are only guessing at what is being done wrong. Who knows?
The kids knew this story from Sunday School and it’s still a popular one. The niece gave this 4 stars. It was pretty gross inside the fish and she thought that would be terrible. This reminds me of our family reunions. Each year we did this kind of thing for both sides of our extended family. We loved it. They are some good memories.
The artwork is unique and it has that feel of chaos that comes from having so many people together. It also feels like summer. It’s a borderline beginning book.

The girl dressed as a witch goes out to prove it's her parents. The other children hold their breath watching. You really need to read the story for the rest. It is well done. A little tingle went up my spine reading it.

Junk food is too much around us and I always want it. So, the story has a true message, a good message. The candy does look so colorful and it made me want junk food.
There is a little bit of body shaming in this one, but this is an 80s mindset. This feels more like a Jan Berenstain idea.

This is a beginning rhyming story of a King who won’t get out of the bathtub. The page asked for help to get him out. People try and plan an event to get him out of the tub, like the Queen who wants to do lunch. The King just has the person do the event in the tub. The page set out lunch in the tub and the Queen got in the tub with her dress. The kids giggled and giggled. The king does battle and has a masquerade ball in the tub. It’s the page who had the answer all along.
I love the artwork of this story. It’s lovely with such a funny subject matter.
Both children gave this 5 stars. The niece thought this hilarious and silly. The nephew thought this was one of the best books ever (no robots or monsters). They both laughed at the king being naked with all these people in the tub with him. This is a hit in our house....more
