I felt it crawl under my skin and put its clammy, gross hands around my heart. Credit where credit is due though because the ability to write in such a claustrophobia-inducing way is, I guess, a talent. A terrifying one but a talent none the less.
Like, have we checked on Will Dean, is he ok? Reading this was so disturbing, I can’t even imagine having this story swirl around in your head and then write it down bringing it to life.
The first 1/3 of the book, it was a bit repetitive, mundane even. But that was Jane’s life wasn’t it. Repetitive hell. And then it all kicks up a notch and I felt physically sick at how trapped Jane felt in the unfolding of chaos.
All of the trigger warnings. Torture. Rape. Human trafficking. Child abuse.
Basically, good luck if you decide to read this. ...more
Tell me you read The Great Gatsby and thought you could do a version of it without telling me.

UGH this is my least favourite of Alex Michaelides books to date. The Silent Patient was SO GOOD, The maidens = meh and then this waste of trees. I hated Elliot Chase in the first few chapters, loathed in the middle and by the end I hated every single character I didn’t care, I hoped they all died.

No one with a conscience could enjoy this.
De Sade may have had a disturbing life, making him write this hell-worthy scroll, but that’s no excuse. France, can’t believe this book is hailed as a national treasure in your country, I mean what the in actual F.

I didn’t not finish because it wasn’t good or terribly written or anything like that.actually because it was too well written, it was too well done on a subject that cuts me too the bone. I couldn’t read even more than a page without feeling the raw guilt that comes with the thoughts you don’t want to have as a mother, the thoughts that come after 3 months of sleep deprivation and bleeding nipples, that maybe you aren’t a good enough mother at all. This was heart wrenching to read and I couldn’t keep going, Motherhood has clearly turned me soft....more

Yuck this book sucked. Asshole ex boyfriend, painfully cringe rich new guy with a magical-fix-it-all bank account and main character that made me want to pull my eyeballs out.
I went into this book because it was quoted on the cover as “ a chilling tale of love gone terribly wrong and the symbiosis gave a hint of a break up that mentally snaps a girl into psycho mode. I thought maybe at least there would be something sinister. But no, just a 26 year old girl that sleeps with two jerk 40 year olds and says f***k a lot. ...more

not only is this book about constant infidelity/adultery but it’s not even a really a crime thriller. It’s a fantasy thriller. The “plot twist ?!?!? His wife isn’t just a sociopath.. she’s into astral projection and leaves her body while dreaming to spy on her cheating husband. When the cover said “you won’t guess this ending I didn’t think they meant “because it’s f*cking ridiculous
I had zero tolerance for all characters and how bloody guilty Louise keeps telling us she feels about sleeping with a married man.... only to keep sleeping with him over and over because “her husband cheated on her and left her and her son is away on holiday for a month so doesn’t she deserve just this one thing? Are you for real?...more
