Miri (Miranda) and Ada (Guadalupe) are 15-year-old cousins. Miri was born in Mexico and Ada was born in the US on the same day. At the same time. They were very close when they were younger but after some time they started to grow apart and now all they do is fight when they're together. Ada comes to visit over the summer with her family and something mysterious happens. They get transported through a portal to the ancient city of Teotihuacan while visiting the ruins. Thus setting off a series of events that can end the world. Can they get over their differences and make it before the world is destroyed?
Narrated by: Luzma Ortiz and Martin Martinez Ortiz does a wonderful job at distinguishing between characters. I can always tell when Ada and Miri are talking because Ada's voice is higher and has an accent when she speaks Spanish. I also really like that she was able to switch so easily between the languages. It made it very realistic. (I do this a lot.) The audio was immersive and fast-paced. The added sounds of busses the city people talking and Pum-eagles (Puma with eagle wings [ Puma Alado ] ) roaring really gave a surreal feeling to the story.
This story is very fast-paced and I had trouble putting it down to go to sleep. There are very emotional moments and a few trigger warnings (below). Ortiz did great at expressing emotion and made me cry twice. I like that the characters complain about each other but they can also see each other's strength.
Trigger Warnings: Sexual Assault (Groping) Death Chronic Illness Bullying
Overall this was a wonderful debut novel and I can't wait for book 2. There is a prequel that I am going to read next, it is a short novella.

We usually see Medusa only as the Gorgon, the monster she has become, and the heroes she turns to stone. Lynn shows us her life before the curse. You feel that Medusa's actions are justified. You can feel the wrath towards the gods and honestly side with Medusa. I think Lynn gave Medusa a wonderful story. It was very fast-paced and the writing made it seem faster. I think Lynn wrote Medusa's emotions so well that even I felt rage towards all the other characters.

I'm glad I closed out Kindness Week with it. Race to Kindness will be a great addition to any primary-level classroom. It reads like poetry. The rhymes help children anticipate what will be said. The illustrations are very well done. They are colorful, There are several illustrations, one for every description of kindness to show kids through pictures and not just words what kindness looks like. I think this was very simple, and well done, illustrations aren't over the top snd don't take away from the message of the book....more

She hoped to meet the love of her life in college, get married, and live happily ever after. Instead, the jerk cheated and left her crushed. Now that her best friend is engaged to a DC Eagles hockey player, Noel starts spending time with Colby Knight, the notorious hockey playboy.
Colby was awestruck from the moment he met Noel and he hasn't been able to get her out of his mind. When he auctions himself off for charity, Noel's grandma wins a date with him. Noel starts to spend a lot of time with Colby to learn how to get a guy to like her, after all, he's been on so many dates.
Colby and Noel spend a lot of time together. Sparks fly, but a blast from the past tries to shake things up will they overcome the aftermath?
The narrators did a great job with their characters. Alex Picard and Niell Thorne gave such life to the characters. Their flow, their timber. The characters were so loveable. The story was a medium pace. Granma was great, and Colby's mom, I think those two would be unstoppable if they get together. Brunner wrote such a beautiful story about trust and letting go of our past. This is fade-to-black, there is no spice and I still gave it 5/5.

Russ and Aurora are so cute. They have chemistry from page 1. After a very passionate 1-night stand they end up working at the same sleep away camp over summer as counselors. Their relationship is bumpy at first. Both have secrets and family issues they don't want others to know. There's a no fraternizing rule in the camp. But they can't seem to keep their hands to themselves.
Russ and Aurora are very cute. I really saw growth in both characters and Russ is now my new book boyfriend. (Don't tell my husband.) He was so kind and caring despite everything he's been through or maybe because of it. Aurora (Rory) also let herself heal and stood her ground. She sees how much she is loved by the one parent who stayed, and how much she is loved by Russ.
Hanna Grace has become one of my favorite authors and this is only her 2nd novel. I am obsessed.

She finds herself in a bustling city trying to hide from whom she believes is her captor, her guardian. She keeps to herself but still manages to get noticed. She gets invited to the palace (?), and learns to fight and defend herself, against what? Things start to unravel when she learns about what haunts this town, its people, and the country. She discovers powers within her that she thinks could get her killed. Makes friends she can trust and learns the truth about her origins.
Tuli is becoming a favorite with her fast-paced writing.
The narrator did an amazing job. She conveyed Zarya very well. Her tone and flow helped to differentiate her emotions. I was able to tell who was talking about 90% of the time.
