These volumes went in a direction I wasn鈥檛 expecting. I love that these read like creepy little short stories, some of them hit harder than others. There were a few that I found to be repetitive in this one and didn鈥檛 do much for me, at least not like the first two volumes of this series did. But the visuals in this manga are so unsettling and disturbing, it鈥檚 definitely the creepiest manga series I鈥檝e ever read. Even more creepy thinking how writing this has affected the author and his life. I鈥檓 curious to know if we鈥檒l get any more volumes of this story in the future! ...more

I thought the protagonist was soooo relatable???? Not only because her name is Gabby and we share the same name, but she also has GERD, which I also have, and she's demisexual, and I'm asexual, like what? It was almost creepy how much we had in common lol. This book was cute, I loved the chemistry and banter she had with Jonathan. I loved the bookstore vibes, it reminded me of The Hating Game with the way they are competing in the work space. There were a few obnoxious things about the plot that I didn't love, especially toward the end and the epilogue was cheesy as hell and I didn't need it, but otherwise this was a fun time and one of the few Christmas books I would recommend.

I loved the small-town vibes as you follow this character who is opening a coffee shop in a town that doesn't even really know what coffee is. The characters were so wholesome (especially Thimble, what a sweet little bean) and there was something so cozy and comforting about this book. It was like the feeling I get while playing a video game or something, I'm not sure how to describe it, but it was kind of wonderful and unexpected and perfect for this time of year. And DAMN this book made me crave coffee on every page hahaha.

I love thrillers that follow writers, and I love that this takes place on the California coast. What I didn't love was the amount of romance in this book, which I wasn't really expecting, and the protagonist could be a little annoying at times ignoring every single red flag this man threw her way. This book kind of read like a more vanilla version of Verity by Colleen Hoover, lol. It never got quite as interesting or unhinged as that book did. It also reminded me a lot of The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins.

From my understanding, this is Ali Hazelwood's first YA romance, and I enjoyed it for the most part. I loved Nolan as a love interest, he's a sweet little bean, and I also liked that ALi Hazelwood stepped away from STEM and science for once and wrote about Chess players, something unique and different, I don't think I've ever read about Chess matches like this.
I think Mallory as a protagonist could be a little annoying sometimes, but for the most part I enjoyed her romantic chemistry with Nolan, and I loved her relationship with her family. I think this book is going to spark a lot of conversation about what makes a book Young Adult? Because there was a lot of talk about sex in this book, she talks about how she loves casual sex and uses tinder all the time, and there are somewhat graphic sex scenes in this book. I know the main character in 18 and I think the love interest is 20? But I'm confused on if this is young adult because the characters are young or if this is supposed to be a book for teens? I just haven't read a YA book before that talks about sex this much so I thought that was interesting and might be good to know before reading.
Also, the pop culture references did get a little out of hand and they were over the top, but also this book mentioned BTS three separate times, and because I am a fan of them, and I RARELY see them talked about in books those moments had me super giddy and excited so there's that. ...more

There are so many beautiful quotes in this book about finding yourself, and mental health, and the universe. One of the best quotes to describe this book, would be this one here: 鈥淐an you love my brain even when it is small? When it is malevolent? When it is violent? Can you love it even when it does not love me?鈥
These characters are so interesting, and they are so likeminded in a lot of ways. This book is a beautiful romantic story about a boy and a girl loving each other and overcoming their hardships and their bad mental health days, and it's really beautiful. The writing is what is going to stick with me the most when it comes to this book.
鈥淏ecause we have agreed, collectively, that to proceed without knowledge or understanding is a stupid kind of bravery, an impulsive kind of blindness, but that to be alone without wonder or curiosity is to chip away any possible value we might discover in existing.鈥
and this quote too....
鈥淓very time you love, pieces of you break off and get replaced by something you steal from someone else. It seems like it鈥檚 the right shape but it鈥檚 slightly different every time, so that eventually, very very quietly and over days and days and days, you are transformed into something unrecognizable, and it happens so slowly you don鈥檛 even notice, like shedding scales and making new ones.鈥
I could go on all day with the quotes, they are stunning. Also, the acknowledgements in this book made me cry on a treadmill while at the gym, so there's that.

This manga really came for my throat with how relatable this protagonist is. I related a lot to what she said about wanting to make other people happy and trying to fit into a certain box because that鈥檚 what people expect from you. I enjoyed the dragons way more than I was expecting to, but I wasn't a huge fan of the characters or the romance in this book. I thought I'd be into the romance because I'm a big romance reader, but this read so cliche and both Violet and Xaden kind of drove me nuts haha. The dragons were definitely the coolest part of this book to me, which is shocking to say because I thought it would be my least favorite aspect of the book. I don't plan to continue in this series.

It's a bit out of my comfort zone with being a fantasy / gothic horror / romance, it's not my typical read. Sometimes I absolutely LOVED the writing and it felt so atmospheric, but then sometimes I felt like the pacing dragged quite a bit (especially with the use of all the footnotes, which I didn't find necessary). I think the design of this book is so aesthetically pleasing and they really went all out with the little details (like the borders around the pages and the indented margins on the chapter title pages), but unfortunately the story itself was a little disappointing for me. I feel like this book could've been better if it leaned more into the horror or the fantasy genre, instead it just kind of straddled both the entire story and I feel like the horror elements were never strong enough to keep my interest throughout the story.

This is such This book is one of my top favorites that I've read this year. I was completely floored by how much I loved this; I wasn't expecting it. This is such a unique and original story about a married couple who finds out that Louis (the husband) is slowly turning into a great white shark. It sounds ridiculous, but this book is actually very serious in tone, and so sad! It was written so gorgeously, some of my favorite writing I've read all year. Even though the chapters are incredibly short, and you can easily read this book in one afternoon, it's left such a lasting impression on me. These characters felt so real, and their connection was so genuine and beautiful to read! I feel like this book can be a huge metaphor for grief and change and loss and how the people we love can become people we don't recognize anymore and how heartbreaking that is. I was also just FASCINATED by the concept in this universe where people can mutate into animals.
Here's an example of a quote I loved: "He was an aimless kite in search of a string to ground him to the world. But instead, he found Wren, a great strong wind who supported his exploration of the sky." like... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? So beautiful.

I grew up with Britney Spears, and I've been a fan of hers since I was a little girl. Reading this memoir was so insightful but also heartbreaking, it was hard hearing about all the awful things she went through as a young woman, from the way she was treated by her male partners, to the way the media villainized her, and even her own family using her to better their lives, it was just really sad. I'm so glad she now has her voice back and I'm so curious to see what she'll do next. I'll always have love in my heart for Britney....more
