I’ve been a fan of Ali Wong ever since my brother and sister-in-law introduced me to her first Netflix special. That's why I had to read her book as soon as I found out about it and let me tell you it is amazing! It's personal, hilarious, brutally honest and also beautifully written.
I laughed out loud so many times, but by the end of it I also kind of felt enlightened. I especially loved her views and comments on motherhood (fiiiiiiinally someone who dosen't gloss over how hard it actually is) and also learning about her life, including how she got where she is, her love life and stories of her exes. Other themes such as finding one’s path, challenging the status quo and harnessing the power of one’s voice make this a worthwhile read for anyone who can take a joke about genitalia.
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is not easily offended by real life language and situations and wants to have a good laugh. Then maybe go watch her Netflix specials and her movie, if you haven't already!...more

I would like to start off by saying that I like Ellen a lot. That's why I decided to read one of her books. She's fun and seems like a genuinely lovely person. UPDATE: Lately, I keep hearing that she's actually not that great in real life?! Idk what to think..
Anyway
While listening to this, I felt like I was being messed with or mocked. The audiobook is read by Ellen herself, which was nice. But 90 percent of the time I felt like she was just... rambling. To give you an example: for a whole minute, she talks about a word she wrote down in some notes and wonders what it says. From there she basically just says a bunch of random words with no meaning whatsoever, then asks herself if it even is her handwriting. All this to eventually end up eating an apple :/ So I listened to Ellen eat an apple for 28 seconds. WHAT KIND OF JOKE IS THIS?
I know that it's comedy and that it's all supposed to be taken with a grain of salt, I just couldn't help but roll my eyes and even cringe for the most part. It felt like she had no idea what to write in this book, so she just talks about meaningless things to get down to a certain word count.

You know?
Maybe I'm not getting it. Maybe it's just not my type of humor. Idk, but I don't think this is a very good book.
Sorry, Ellen. I still like you and your show, though!...more
The humans is a funny story about an alien who is sent to Earth to take over the body of a mathematician who has proven a major hypothesis**5 Stars**
The humans is a funny story about an alien who is sent to Earth to take over the body of a mathematician who has proven a major hypothesis, that's said to be dangerous knowledge for an immature species such as us humans. The alien is supposed to eliminate all traces of that hypothesis by any means possible.
The extraterrestrial comes in with a distorted view of humans and through his eyes, we see the absurdity of some mundane things like jobs, news and so on. He also takes us on a crazy trip through our own existence, so we can see with clarity how silly, awful, lovely, ridiculous and wonderful our short lives are. It's a clever look at all of us from a different angle.
The story kicks off when the alien doesn't bother to dress in clothes and wanders the streets naked, spitting people and learning our language from the Cosmopolitan magazine and it just keeps being funny throughout. He is initially repelled by everything he sees on Earth - by people, by food, by the environment and by violence. But, the alien is a quick learner and he gradually learns to love what he sees. The plot moves into the mathematician's family life and various dramas ensue along the way. He repeatedly asks himself and others, what it is like to be human and as he learns about belonging and love, he eventually wants to become one.
Read this book. Don't wait. It's a very quick read and a total delight....more

It must admit, it took me far too many years to get on the Gilmore Girls train. Even if I used to watch an episode every now and then as it first aired on TV, I was never actually hooked. But come 2016 with the Netflix reboot, and I had to give it another try. So I started binging all 7 seasons, as well as the new episodes "A year in the life". Once I finally did watch it, boy did I become an instant fan! Needless to say that the minute I heard Lauren Graham is also a writer, I had to get my hands on her books. Little did I know that I actually already owned one of her books Someday, someday maybe. Anyway, to get back on track, I always imagined Lauren Graham's personality to be similar to Lorelai Gilmore's, or was it the other way around that she made Lorelai to be like her, this intelligent, witty, beautiful and hilarious person?!
Talking as Fast as I Can starts off strong, particularly if you listen to the audio (which also highlights her acting abilities). In this book, she talks about her upbringing, her college years, first auditions, first jobs in the mundane world and the show business as well as her experience filming Gilmore Girls and other shows she starred in. What I most enjoyed reading about were her short diary-type entries of the experience of filming the revival and to hear other bits of Gilmore Girls history. It was also amazing to finally find an audiobook that is only 4 hours long!
To sum it all up: this is a must-read for all Gilmore Girls fans!

I had added it to my to read list a while ago, but there are 690 other books on that list, so yeah, chances were pretty slim I'd read it anytime soon. But I did stumble upon the audiobook and thought "hey, that's Charlie from Supernatural!" and I loved Charlie from Supernatural ❤️ So, obviously, I started listening to it right away.
Let me tell you, Felicia Day did not disappoint. Not one bit. I absolutely LOVED her voice (oh yeah, she narrates her own book. AWESOME!). She is funny and quirky and real and straight up adorable. If you know who she is, either from her many appearances on different TV shows or from her awesome YouTube series "The Guild"(I learned all about the guild from the audiobook and already watched 2 seasons), or even if you don't know who she is, this is a great read.
She tells it all, she talks about her childhood, about school, how she fought to make a name for herself in a tough business (Hollywood that is) and not only that but also how it is to be a girl in the gaming world. You're never weird on the internet (almost) offered me a great time, 6 hours very well spent, while laughing and feeling inspired by her stories and her advice.
Just loved this book, so go read it or better yet, go listen to it. NOW.
