I honestly enjoyed this more than I thought I was going to
It was so interesting, imaginative, enchanting, atmospheric and spooky and I was hooked from the start. It was so addictive to read, and I just didn't want to do anything else until I'd finished it
It was such a marvellous book, and I think it might be going on a list of my favourite standalone fantasy/paranormal books...more

It wasn't majorly action packed, it was a lot of building up to events that happened towards the end / will happen in future books, but my oh my was it good! I still love these characters so much, and it was so nice to be back with them again <3 They're all still my faves, especially Kenji <3 This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions, and I honestly don't know how I'm gonna cope with this 11 month wait D:
Original comments when I first finished: I've just finished this, and I am shooooook, all I can do to review this book is summarise it with a gif of how I feel right now:

Although some plot points were predictable, others were really surprising and things that I could not have imagined myself.
It was different than I was expecting, I was just expecting a mystery / search for a missing sister during an epidemic and the search for how it all started, but it also had paranormal aspects that were major to the plot that I wasn’t expecting. Although I wasn’t expecting it, it was a welcome aspect and did add a lot to the story.
The plot was fast paced and interesting, there wasn’t a boring moment, it was exciting to read, i wanted to find out the answers as much as the characters did. There is so much more I need to know!! The writing was so detailed in the science aspects, although it was mostly fictional, it linked in with real science, and I thought it was well written.
It was a great start to the series and I’m looking forward to discovering more! I have a hunch about something and I can’t wait to see if that hunch is true!
idk what it is but this book was kinda just ok to read. It didn't have the same spark as the Mara Dyer The reading year is off to a kind of meh start
idk what it is but this book was kinda just ok to read. It didn't have the same spark as the Mara Dyer trilogy books, maybe i've just outgrown the characters because I found them pretty annoying whereas previously I really liked them
It just kinda felt like and unnecessary follow on plot, just for the sake of it to me, which is unfortunate because I was really looking forward to this
tbh I don't think I'll carry on reading the following books when they come out :/...more
