In the present day Josephine Reynolds is recently widowed and trying to put her life back together. With help from her sister she decides to purchase her old historic family home just outside of Nashville. As she begins to organize and refurbish the home she finds a secret trap door in the basement and it surprisingly opens and there in all it's glory is a "speakeasy" from 1927. Soon she finds herself in that world and she needs to save her Great-Grandmother from a terrible fate.
This story has a good mix of historical fiction with time-travel and romance. I just found it a little slow-moving but it did entertain.

It's a time-travel story between 2019 and 1949. In 2019 Lily has travelled to Hollywood from England. She wants to get into show business and is currently working at the ultra posh Beverly Hills Hotel. She's cleaning a luxurious suite where a famous starlet was stabbed to death in 1949. Lily bumps her head while cleaning the bathtub and somehow finds herself in 1949 in the suite of Honey Black. Lily feels she can help prevent the starlet's death and must figure out who is out to kill her before it's too late.
I love the Golden age of Hollywood and this story really transports you to that era. I feel like this had a cozy-mystery feel to it. It's a light and easy read that entertains....more

This is available on Prime Reading and it caught my eye. Set during WW II in 1943 and a fictional struggle in 2023 this one packed in a lot for 50 pages. Radio transcription wires go awry and a British lady working radio transcription in wartime Britain interacts with a U.S. Navy Officer in 2023! It ended on an emotional tender thought. A great little story! Why have I not read anything from Kate Quinn before? I definitely will now!!...more

This is my first ever book by the acclaimed author Jude Deveraux. I know it’s probably not exactly reminiscent of her true style as this one is also co-authored with Tara Sheets. My friend kindly gifted me this book over the holidays so I was excited to read it. I read the physical copy and at times also listened to the audiobook that was wonderfully narrated.
This is a time-travel story with a very eye-catching premise. In 1844 Liam O’Connor, who is a thief in Ireland falls in love with a Squire’s daughter, Cora McLeod. In doing so he alters her fate. In present day (2020) North Carolina, USA, Cora is now a police officer and Liam is sent there by the angels to help set things right and allow Cora’s true destiny to finally take place. She must fall in love and marry a man named Finn in which she has been destined to be with since 1844.
I liked the story and was entertained throughout but I feel like it missed in the romance department. I was expecting a great time-honoured love and didn’t get all the feels of that. Plus I wanted more backstory of the happenings in Ireland.
Still this book kept my attention but ends with no resolution. There is a book 2 I will read as I do want to see how this all ends....more

I'm enjoying this time travel series by Paula Brackston. I find it very well researched and the Seventeenth Century in England fascinating. I was delighted to learn that hot chocolate houses were popular in that time. This book certainly had me wanting to have some as I was reading about the making of the hot chocolate!
I was interested to catch up with Xanthe and her travels as I enjoyed the first book as well. The present day story of the antique store setting (and her mother Flora) I am enjoying as well although the old boyfriend (Marcus) is getting a bit annoying. I felt like yelling at Xanthe to just forcefully tell him to LEAVE! She is a strong character and the way she is interacting with Marcus is grating on my nerves a little! Her present day love interest (Liam) I am slowly warming to although I want to learn more about him.
Xanthe has a special gift, time travel which we learn is being referred to as, "Spinning." In the second book it is the old copper chocolate pot which "sings" to her. When an object from the past that Xanthe touches, "sings" to her she knows she is needed in the past and must travel in time to help solve a mystery. This book leads her back into the 1600's and she is reunited with Samuel and meets some new people as well as a disturbing figure.
I really enjoyed the story but parts of it got a little bit slow (around 70% of the way.) It then bounced back with a fabulous cliffhanger ending. I will most certainly read the third book! As I was reading the book I kept thinking that this might make a good series for tv. I know I'd watch it for just plain escapism.

I listened to this book as an Audio and it was a beautiful, stunning story! I was mesmerized and enchanted by the setting and history of Ireland. The story was cleverly told in a unique way through time-travel and poetry. A timeless love story between Anne Gallagher and Thomas Smith!
I enjoyed the journey. Amy Harmon is definitely an author that I will automatically read again. This is one of the best books of 2019 in my opinion!...more

Xanthe and her mother Flora have opened an antique shop. Xanthe has always had a sort of, "power" that when she touches old things she can feel and hear their story. She discovers an old, "Chatelaine" from the 17th century in the newly bought shop of hers. This time something stranger happens and she finds herself in the 17th century embroiled in an adventure to help and save.
Paula Brackston paints a very atmospheric and magical story of time travel. I'm so glad that I've recently been approved by NetGalley to read the second book in the series, "Secrets of the Chocolate House." I think this will be a wonderful series....more

This is a first for Diane Chamberlain..a different type of story but yet the same kind all in one. I don't want to give too much away. The story is fantastic! The blurb on the book was perfect. I must admit that I only skimmed it. I purposely did not want to hear too much (as I'd heard rattles throughout the book community already.) I automatically read anything by Diane Chamberlain. I'm glad I was so delightfully surprised!
The year is 1970 and Caroline (Carly) is pregnant and so very sad. She has recently lost her husband in a horrific way. She is now living with her beloved sister and brother-in-law. But something may not be right with the baby. Her brother-in-law proposes a solution. But could it be a miracle or the most ludicrous, insane thing ever?
This book is packed with a lot of deep, heartfelt emotions throughout the whole story. It's the same type of classic Diane Chamberlain but with a new twist to her story. Her writing is on par as usual. I could not put this down! I so highly recommend it!

This book has bits of everything I enjoy...an old English country house (with a history all of it's own,) a story in the past and present (time travel), and some romance.
I think this was more of a 2 1/2 for me. It is essentially a time travel love story. The middle sort of dragged on for me and the ending was good but I think this was more of a 2 1/2 for me.
