Things get a little out there towards the end with body possession, fated lovers, evil goddesses trapped in a Hellmouth but I was honestly here for it all. After a disastrous first date gone wrong, Bennett and Henry agree to be friends and embark on a series of adventures around the city designed to help Bennett find her passion for life again.
Incredibly relatable, this debut tackles tragic loss, grief, guilt, anxiety and depression and coping with watching a parent who is losing themselves to dementia.
It was great on audio, funny and very moving and I loved how the author was able to strike a great balance of levity and emotional depth. Highly recommended for fans of Cara Bastone's Promise me sunshine.

A fresh and original debut that reimagines a world in which Harriet Tubman has come back to help get a broadway version of her life story made with the help of Darnell, an up and coming hip-hop producer. This was great on audio with an original song included at the end and while it might not be for everyone, I thought it was thought-provoking, fresh and more relevant than ever. This was a compelling multigenerational domestic drama about an Iranian American family that spans generations. While I loved the audiobook narration for this debut, I felt that it was difficult to stay invested as the novel is long and alternates timelines, perspectives and countries often. Moving nonetheless with strong female characters, I look forward to reading more by this author and would recommend for fans of authors like Marjane Satrapi and Marjan Kamali's book, The stationery shop. But when Daisy gets a new boyfriend she finds herself wanting to spend more and more time with him, leaving Agnes all alone. A bit angsty and the art has strong goth vibes but it was still a good book about female friendship. ...more

Unexpected bonus points that a lot of the book deals with fighting for unions and worker's rights. The romance is a slow burn but it works for the characters who are recovering from a toxic ex and grieving the death of a sister respectively. There's great communication, spicy moments and some great food. Highly recommended, especially for the Trans Rights Readathon!...more

I thought Camila's mental health (anxiety and panic attacks were really well done and she sees a therapist to help her manage it). The book also has fantastic and diverse queer characters (Camila's main love interest in the book is a biracial trans/nonbinary individual, her best friend is poly and is dating someone with multiple partners and it turns out her father is also bisexual).

I fear that anyone who dives into this debut blind expecting a light, frothy romcom will be grossly disappointed.
While I did find parts slow-moving and I doubt I would have finished if I hadn't listened to the audiobook version, I still think it will resonate deeply with a certain demographic of readers (perhaps those younger than me). It touches on some heavy topics and is definitely NOT a romance even though parts have romantic storylines.
The audio narration was good with a full cast and I would recommend this to fans of authors like Camille Kellogg or books like The Christmas orphans club. I loved this one a lot. There's great mental health and therapy rep (Blake has generalized anxiety disorder) and Ella is working with a therapist to deal with the sexual harassment she endured at her last job. As the two globe trot from FI races around the world, they grow closer and closer until things combust ending in a fantastic grand gesture podcast apology.
