Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I enjoyed it, and I found it added to the otherworldly feeling.
What I did dislike was the some of the sentence structure. Things felt oddly put together so I found myself having to reread each line to understand what the hell was being said. I found it easier as I read more, either because I got used to it or because I stopped caring about fully understanding what I read.
I loved how gruesome and disturbing this was. It was horrific in a way recent modern horror I've read hasn't been. I did find the epilogue a disappointment. The book would have been better served without it included.

But he was fun, and sometimes all you need is a silly little book to take your brain out for.
My only complaints were that for a book with zero real plot I felt the end dragged a bit. Every time I thought it was over there was another chapter. My other complaint is that while this is a standalone, characters from the main series make an appearance and get name checked in a way I found distracting and uninteresting. ...more
This was absurdly silly. The characters spend 90% of the book hard, no matter the circumcises they find themselves in. But it was a fun read.

The main plot was fine, although far from the draw. This book really is one for the characters. It's a throuple romance, but honestly I would have read a hundred pages of just the two exes getting back together. I think a book just focused on them, and that took itself a little more seriously, would have been a better book. ...more

Specifically with the mystery, were based on the pattern the author follows I was able to guess the killer as soon as we met him based on how friendly he was.
Predictable mystery aside, I enjoyed this book and the final in the series. Cooper continued to be the best main character around, and Oliver wasn't half bad either. There wasn't any of the relationship friction from the previous books that I enjoyed so much, but it wasn't really the book for it.
I didn't care for the world building enough to read the spin off series at this time. It really was Cooper and Oliver and their relationship that had me coming back for more. But who knows, I might be tempted in the future. ...more

Loved the dynamic between the mains, the side characters were all interesting, and the mystery was fun too. Up until this point Cooper was the only one of the two that had any real characterisation outside of being "perfect". Turns out that was sort of the point! I didn't really much care for the mystery in this one, but the romance was as good as ever. And finally loving both main characters was a plus as well. ...more
