I decided to listen to the audio book, but i kept falling asleep, the author was reading, his voice put me to sleep lol. I'm giving it 2 stars for now, because I really can't tell you much about the book, but what I was able to listen to was boring and monotone. Next time I'll read the book myself rather than listen to it. ...more

The author takes you all the way back to the time when Jesus walked the earth. What would it be like? He writes a story about our Saviors life, death and resurrection and the people who were witnesses to all of it and places you in the story. He really brings everything to life and makes you feel the experience of being with Jesus through it all....more

You can check out my review on that book as it applies to this book as well. A lot of repeating from The Circle Maker. I think at this point it's safe to say that I'm not a fan of Mark Batterson's writing. He's very much into praying for prosperity, money and property he wants so he can make more money. His prayers are all based on material wants. I highly doubt I'll be reading any more of his books and don't recommend them....more

A whole lot of "prosperity" type of prayers for material items. The authors prayers are very focused on praying for material items rather than prayers for other people who are in need of prayer for important things like health and so on. The prayers the author is more concerned about is not praying for the patrons of his church, it's praying for his church to expand to different locations, for money for his church to open a coffee house things of that nature.
What disgusted me was how the author and pastor prayed for a crack house....no, not praying for the addicted people who are harming themselves and are lost souls, no he did not pray for the people in the crack house to find Jesus and have their poor broken souls saved and healed. He prayed that God would give him the crack house to rebuild into a coffee house because its location is close to one of his churches, this way his coffee house would be close to church, so after services the church goers could stop in to buy coffee. So, what about the drug users in need of help pastor Mark? Back on the street they go after they get thrown out of the house he bought, no second thought about them, no prayers, no donations from the sales of the coffee house to go to treatment programs. Selfish, I want it, God's going to give it to me because I deserve it, I prayed circles around the crack house for my own selfish needs and wants to make more money and nothing to help the people who's souls are lost in the crack house, who cares about them, just give me my coffee house God.
Pray hard and don't stop no matter what your circumstance is, don't give up when you feel worn out from praying over and over. God hears you. You do not need this book to tell you that, infact I don't recommend it. Really, I dont. It's nothing but the pastor/author praying for coffee houses and money for his church. He does not pray for anyone in need, he does not show an example of how to pray circles other than walking in a circle around a crack house asking God to give it to him so he can sell coffee. He then shares stories of how much money rich people gifted his church and so on. If you don't like Joel Osteen, you really won't like this pastor. ...more

It felt gross. A young fifteen year old girl being manipulated by her forty year old teacher, the sexual abuse. How the teacher is only turned on by young girls and not women after the age of twenty which is too old for him. How the young girls are made to believe that it is them who is giving him consent when he is manipulating them into believing that it's their choice. How he likes to be called daddy. It's just too much, but it is a very real thing that is happening in our world today. It is very well written, I just found it too upsetting and disturbing for me to continue reading at this time. ...more

What I didn't care for is that the book refers to Scripture and kind of uses it out of context. The author puts her own meaning into what she thinks a verse in the Bible means relating to the brain and our thoughts....more

That's why I only gave it two stars. I also couldn't finish it for that reason, I was reading the exact same "lessons" over and over in each chapter and each and every single page.
Basically the message repeated pepeatedly in this book is to feel empathy and compassion for other people and what they are going through, send them wishes of happiness, love and healing. Learn to sit with your own pain and accept it. ...more

Her tips and tricks will teach you how to expertly read anyone in your personal life, professional work setting, how to conduct interviews as well as how to carry yourself in these settings, such as a job interview and what employers are taking note of.
Evy shares stories of her time in service protecting the president and family, and the situations that arised during that time. Listening to her speak about her very brave and tiring experience during search and rescue when the twin towers came crashing down on 9/11 gave me chills.
What I enjoyed about this book was Evy's advice to protect yourself, how to speak up for yourself, every thing she shared is very applicable to everyday average people living an every day normal life, not just tips for those in high powered positions....more
