I waited to read on so I could read the second two at the same time and not have to try and remember everything and everyone from the first books, and I loved the second book. It was one of those it is so good I am trying to read it slowly because I don't want it to end reads. I loved how the characters had grown and changed in the 4 years between books and just loved it. Loved everything about it. So I was pretty excited to get started on this third one once I finished...only it didn't work for me. The very beginning and how Jade was gave me a bit of a pause so I put it aside and read something else and returned to it a few days later.
Now there were parts that really worked in this, but for the most part it felt like a bit of a mess. It was confusing and hard to follow (I know I am not the best with names so I was always like wait...who was that again? Or what happened there?). Some of the dialogue was confusing and like I wasn't in on it so I didn't get it. And the actions of the characters at times didn't make sense to me. Letha beating up Jade when she finally appears? I went back and read that scene a few times trying to make it make sense to me. Why would she do that?? Letha is probably my favorite character, but stuff like that felt so out of character for her. Plus Jade has regressed and it didn't feel like she really grew or changed from the first book anymore. Like even at the end she was still that same person blaming herself for everything that isn't her fault. I wanted more. I felt like her at the end of the second book was stronger and I expected and hoped for more from her in this third book. Oh well. ...more

The main issue? Way too many long passages just teaching me about whatever. Like medical marijuana...I really didn't need to know all about how it all works, the different strains and whatever that make up marijuana and such. Like I don't care. There was a bit too much of that kind of thing for me to really enjoy the book....more

I was kind of indifferent and didn't really care what was happening. The writing, especially the dialogue, felt very stilted to me and it was tough to actually get into. That and it was very repetitive and it was way too long before anything was revealed...and that ending. I rolled my eyes so much. Like let's all take turns doing the things. And then it was just over. I will likely forget about this book pretty quickly and that's fine. It was nothing special....more

I started reading and you are in it from the first moments. I loved that you are trying to figure out what is going on along with the main characters. Everyone has lost their memories, the game you are trying to win is also trying to kill you, the monsters were creepy, the reality interesting, it was great. Really I got about halfway through the book before dinner and told my husband I am not available this evening - I need to keep reading to see what happens next! This was a really fun one and I look forward to reading more from the author.

I know I am not the target audience, I know it is YA, but usually I still enjoy that. Our main character Faolan was annoying me by the end and the romance came out of nowhere and didn't work for me. There was not a lot of tension which was odd as there could have been. There was only a scene or two of "spooky" things and the execution wasn't the best for me. That and the whole last part, the big showdown if you will, had me rolling my eyes so much. Of course that is what was going to happen and well...some of it really didn't make sense (like the mayor. It seems like he should have figured something out). Like the end was a bit too easy to wrap up in a nice bow.
I did really enjoy the Rovers though and would love to have had more about them and the things they can do. Their security stuff was super interesting and fun. I also loved the cats and the whole idea. Maybe if I were younger and more the target audience some of the other stuff would have worked better, but as it is it was just an okay read.

I dnf-ed this book at 50% as I could not care about anything that was happening. I was so bored and the jumping around in time did not work for me. Normally I don't mind before and after, but this jumped all around in time inside (I think the outside chapters were in order of events, but I can't even remember now if they are). It was too much and every time I started getting into the story it would jump to a different time and it would lose all momentum. I think this would really be much better told linearly. Or maybe not, maybe there is a reason for all this jumping around but I didn't get far enough to understand why. But I couldn't do it anymore so I stopped.

Every time something was revealed I hated the story a bit more. The beginning had me wanting to read on and see what happened, but the explanation was ugh not good. By the time I got to the end I was just finishing it to finish it and it somehow got even worse than I had expected, maybe because I thought there is no way that is what would be the ending because I hated the idea of it. Oh well. I might give the author another try as like I said the writing was good, I just thought the story itself wasn't. ...more
