TW: Sex trafficking.
A wife returns home from a trip to Paris to find her wealthy husband dead in a pond on her property.
The marriage was on the rocks and both the deceased husband and the wife had planned to file for divorce.
The book's "Did the Wife Kill the Husband? premise was ultra-compelling until it wasn't.
Midway through the book, the storyline veered off course.
Had I known about the book's sex trafficking component, I never would have selected this title.
I listened to the audiobook read by Laurel Lefkow.
Although Laurel Lefkow did a superb job with the narration, the book unfolded from multiple POVs and could have used at least three additional narrators.

The book's premise was strong: A Hollywood has-been goes missing. Is she dead or alive?
Overall, the book suffered from too much repetitive text and a lack of thrills.
I listened to the 7-hour audiobook that easily could have been a 5-hour audiobook.
Narrator Vivienne Leheny did a fine job with the narration.
SPOILER ALERT: The book's "happily ever after" ending was contrived and disappointing.
On the surface, "ON THE SURFACE" had an intriguing premise and an ultra-compelling cast of characters.

On the surface, "ON THE SURFACE" had an intriguing premise and an ultra-compelling cast of characters.
When a beautiful American YouTube "cruising life" influencer disappears during her morning swim in the Bahamas, her allegedly abusive boyfriend quickly becomes the #1 suspect.
And the YouTube influencer's social media traffic soars.
This slow-burn "Gone Girl Wannabe" thriller was waaaay too S-L-0-W and, at times, I found myself drowning in repetitive text.
POSSIBLE SPOILER: Readers are told early on that the YouTube influencer is alive.
IMHO, the book would have been stronger had this "big reveal" surfaced at the end of the book and not in the early chapters.
Although I applaud the author for penning a book exposing the toxicity of social media, the book's overall storyline lacked the suspense I was seeking and, at times, was a tedious read.
I listened to the full-cast audiobook read by Frankie Corzo, Evan Sibley, Chanté McCormick, Savy Des-Etages, and David Bendena.
Full-cast audiobooks are always a treat and special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Instead, it was a domestic drama that lacked thrills and showcased waaay too much teen dialogue with predictable twists.
The book was overwritten and the 9.5-hour audiobook easily could have been 6.5 hours.
This being said, the book was engaging and I did make it to the finish line.
I listened to the audiobook read by Julie Maisey, who did an outstanding job with the narration.

TRUE CONFESSION: I am an impatient reader.
And this impatient reader lost patience listening to a "lyrical and emotionally engaging novel" about an "accident" in an adult residence, love, friendship, and the power of forgiveness.
WHY DID I LOSE PATIENCE? The pacing was waaaay too S-L-O-W!
Yes, "The Night in Question" was well-written and received glowing reviews from other GR members.
I listened to the audiobook read by Jenny Funnel, one of my favorite narrators.
Even though the book was well-written with a fabulous narrator, I lost patience early on; making it very tough to pass the finish line.

Let's talk talent.
The author of "A Talent for Murder" has a talent for writing.
Yes, "A Talent for Murder" is talented Peter Swanson's third Henry Kimball/Lily Kinter book and it was a winner.
Is a newlywed librarian's husband a talented serial killer?
Enter Lily Kintner, the librarian's friend, soon to be followed by Henry Kimball.
From start to finish, talented author Peter Swanson had me engaged, entertained, and enthralled.
Although the first half was stronger than the final chapters, the book was fast-paced, compelling, and unputdownable.
I listened to the full-cast audiobook read by talented narrators Sophie Amoss, Stephen Graybill, Saskia Maarleveld, Graham Halstead, Kathleen Early, and Keith Szarabajka.
All talented narrators did a superb job with the narration.
Talented Peter Swanson is one of my go-to authors and I always look forward to his future releases.

"The Photo" was a "picture perfect", fast-paced 5-star read.
Ten years ago, in Tidehaven, England, a woman and her twin 2-year-old sons were brutally massacred in their home.
The woman's 5-year-old daughter was severely injured but survived.
The key suspect in this horrific crime was the woman's husband, who disappeared.
A recent photo taken by the woman's sister changes everything and reopens the case.
This gripping, compelling, pacey book boasted red herrings galore and unpredictable twists.
I listened to the audiobook read by Tamsin Kennard, who did an outstanding job with the narration.

A woman falls down the stairs at her lavish 50th birthday party.
Did she fall or was she pushed?
The book's premise was intriguing and the author's characterizations were strong.
The list of suspects was plentiful and the twist at the end of the book was jolting.
I especially enjoyed the book's police procedural component and the character of DI Grace Roth, the lead investigator.
WHY NOT 5 STARS? The book's pacing was slow and tedious at times.
I listened to the audiobook read by Danielle Cohen. Although Danielle Cohen did a superb job with the narration, the audiobook would have benefited from a full cast of narrators.
