I picked it up because the author is a debut author from my hometown of Milwaukee, WI. Anything to support a new local author. I did not know just how much I would enjoy it. Liam and Mila, while both have past traumas, find happy ever after with each other with a little help from their grandfathers, Papo and Killian.
I can't wait for the next book!! And it had better be Saint's story!...more

I was made to feel bad bI developed much earlier than my friends and this book brought back so much of the horrors of 6th, 7th and 8th grades for me. I was made to feel bad by a teacher as well as many of the boys in my class. I loved that this book addressed the inequalities of how the dress code was enforced thereby sexualizing young girls bodies. It also brought to the attention that the idea that dress "made it difficult for the boys to learn". Ridiculous. There were racial discriminations with the dress/hair code as well.
I loved that Molly was a good student but an average one who took on this cause. Sometimes we see in these books that it's always the "smart" kids, the top of the class kids, who are taking on the causes. Molly wasn't that.
Molly also has some horrific behind the scenes crap happening at home. Her brother's addiction is affecting the entire family. But by starting the podcast and taking up the cause of the dress code, she learns that while she can love her brother, she doesn't need to give him her light. She will save her light for what she deems important.
I really enjoyed this book. There were times when there was a bit much going on (ie, the bears. Not sure that any of that helped the story. ) But I definitely want to share this book with the kids in my life. ...more
Murder at Mena House is much more than a "cozy mystery". A young widow travels to Cairo, Egypt in 1926 wit A completely enjoyable new mystery series!
Murder at Mena House is much more than a "cozy mystery". A young widow travels to Cairo, Egypt in 1926 with her Aunt. While there she meets new people, some who become friends and some who are dangerous... but who is who? When Jane Wunderly finds a body she becomes a suspect. She begins to investigate the murder so she can be removed from the suspect list.
Jane is an interesting character with a heartbreaking backstory. And I expected Aunt Millie to play the part of the kooky meddling Aunt but so many times I wanted to punch Aunt Millie in the face. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to like her or not. I also want to know if some of the other characters make it back into upcoming books. I am looking forward to reading more as this series progresses.
