Brutal and magnificent. A force of nature. How else can I describe a book about witches, demons and dark lords, fae queens and warriors, possessed princes, rebels and whores?
Queen of Shadows deserves more than 5 stars. Queen of Shadows rattles the stars.
The fire-breathing bitch-queen is back. Ready to gather her court, claim her throne and wreck havoc to those who hurt her and the people she loves. The world is changing, trust is tested, enemies turn to friends, friends to lovers, villains to allies and the real evil is darker and more cunning than anyone thought. The real fight starts now.
By the Wyrd, Sarah J Maas's storytelling is spectacular! I lost two nights' sleep and I forgot to eat because I was sucked in Erilea, sucked in battles and plots and plans that went wrong and sacrifices and general badassery. An emotional roller coaster, a wild ride, an incredibly vivid and captivating book. That's what we call high fantasy people.
The characters
I can't help but admire Sarah's characters. It's true, Celaena is not someone I can relate to nor agree with, and I found myself scolding her for her decisions and cringing at her cruelty, but at the same time I felt a wave of pride for what she's achieved and the way she has grown up. And the rest of the women oh.my.god!! I freaking love Manon, my brilliant bloodthirsty witch, and Lysandra and Nesryn, they're the embodiment of strength and courage! And they kick ass!
As for the men in this book? Dorian is and always will be my favorite, my number one, my precious prince, my baby, my sun and stars, my chocolate cupcake, but Aedion and Rowan and Chaol are also perfect. And edible. I'm a big fat slut.
Emotions
Every time Dorian was in pain, my heart broke. Every time Sam was mentioned, my heart broke. Every time a story full of pain was revealed, my heart broke.
But then Aedion would say something funny and I would be like
The romance
Let me make something clear. The new ship? Ahoy mates, I'm on board!BUT, I didn't like the way Sarah handled the Chaol/Celaena relationship. I actually felt bad for Chaol and thought that he was right most of the times he and Celaena argued. They all have changed, him and Celaena (and Dorian for that matter), they're not the people we met in the first book, and that's expected. I just wish some changes were smoother.
However, this book was epic. Period. The different storylines were knit together perfectly, and the last 100 pages gave me goosebumps. Like I said, epic.

Μωρέ θα το συνεχίσεις!!Και ένα θα σου πω:θυμάσαι που έλεγα ότι με είχε νευριάζει ο Chaol στο προηγούμενο;;Ε σε αυτό συμφωνούσα μαζί του και συνέχισα να τον αγαπώ!!;) Είναι εξαιρετικό βιβλίο πραγματικά!!
Αχχχχχχχχχχχχχχχ.... Μόλις μου έφτιαξες την μέρα... Ειλικρινά νομίζω ότι στράβωσα εξαιτίας του ότι όλοι έλεγαν ότι ο Κάολ ήταν βλάκας στο τρίτο... Πφφφφφφφφφφ.... Ευτυχώς!!!! Ναι, πρέπει να τα πιάσω άμεσα...
Κοίτα αλλαγές υπάρχουν στον χαρακτήρα του αλλά δεν με ενόχλησαν,δεν καταλαβαίνω γιατί όλοι διαμαρτύρονται!Ε ναι ήταν λίγο βλάκας στο τρίτο αλλά εντάξει,θα το ξεπεράσεις!!Και στο τέταρτο η φιλία του με τον αγαπημένο μου Ντοριαν είναι συγκινητική!!
Από την αρχή ήταν πολύ κοντά ο ένας στον άλλον, απλά μια γυναίκα μπήκε στη μέση και έγιναν λιγάκι μπάχαλο!!!
Ε το ξεπέρασαν αυτό επιτέλους τα χρυσά μου!!

Thank you Scarlett!!<3 <3 I need to ask,what's your ship and your favorite male character?Because whether you'll love it or not depends on these answers!It's true there were many complaints,especially about Chaol,but I didn't find him irritating nor unfair.But like I wrote above,some things should change smoother!I don't mind though,it was a brilliant story!xD And I still want to marry Dorian!! <3
I totally agree with you ! I love the badass women in this book, and when Aelin and Manon met : AWESOME BADASSERY ! I also think the change in Aelin and Chaol's relationship was a bit brutal and not very smooth, but in the end I didn't really mind because since HoF, I'm team Rowan !
Well I loved Celaena/Dorian in book 1 so it is safe to say my ship was the first to sink :P I didn't like Celaena with Chaol that much and thank God for that because I avoided a major heartbreak!!Dorian is still my favorite but I LOVE Rowan (and Aedion-their bromance was perfect!!)XD And Aelin-Manon OH MY GOD!!I'm so glad we agree!!
Yes, me too, I was in love with Dorian in the first book and was sad to see how things went in book 2 with Celaena. But I still love him and his relationship with Chaol and Aelin, and after QoS, I totally see something happening between him and Manon ! The scene when they meet and the one at the very end were intense.
Indeed they were very intense and I am very curious to find out whether they will have a thing!My poor baby deserves happiness,he was in so much pain :'( Dorian and Chaol's friendship in this one was very touching!<3 And I'm pretty sure that the key to defeat the Valg are both Dorian and Aelin combining their powers!

I ship Chaolaena!! I will stick by this ship until the end. Chaol is a great character. I love him I’m proud of him. This is not to say I will keep forcing Chaolaena when the love was lost between them or if one of them wants someone else. Sinking one’s ship is not an aspect for me to rate the book lower than it deserves, not that I won’t be heart broken or angry over it.From what I’ve heard so far, Chaol was written so poorly in QoS. As for me, I have to read the book myself before I can truly believe anything and as long as they're in-character I'll try to keep an open mind regarding any possible changes from the characters.

Great Review!!! and I totally agree about the Chaol and Celeana relationship...and I don't mean their romance (even though I was a die hard Chaolaena shipper)..But both of them blaming each other and constantly arguing over Every freaking thing , It was just hard to read and For Chaol it really seemed out of Character.

Thank you dear!!^^It is obvious that Sarah wanted to terminate things between Chaol and Celaena in an irrevocable way but it didn't feel right,not after everything they've been through,and note that I prefer Rowan as her love interest!I must admit though that Chaol was more likable in this book than the previous,at least towards the end!

I think that the #Chaolena is dead and gone, and we are not sailing but still on board! Dorian is endgame, there are 2 books left and I have Hope!
