Hero (Hero, #1)

4.5 'rom-com' stars
What I liked in Hero :
1. Enemies-to-lovers
2. Office romance
3. Humorous banter
4. low angst
Alexa Holland, the enemy's daughter who end up working as Caine Carraway's PA. This is a woman who know what she wants and chase after it. Despite Caine hatred and harsh treatment towards her, this woman never back down. Alexa is adamant to change Caine perception towards her and to admit that he wants her in his life permanently
Caine Carraway, self-made millionaire, brooding, confident and a hardass boss. After finding out about Alexa's identity, which link to the tragedy of his family, he decided to hire her and work her to an early grave.
Them working together brought forth an awesome love/hate relationship between the boss and the PA and some sensual office romance when they engage in an intimate affair. What is hotter than having sex on your boss' desk with the said boss?
Of course, things are not flower and roses despite them screwing each other. Alexa is a woman on a mission to demolish Caine's armor. She wants more than just sex between them. I laugh out loud at their boring morning after. I felt like I hear some cricket noise during that particular scene. It seems like when Caine proposed an affair, he only do sex and nothing more.
I honestly don't mind that Alexa is the one doing the chasing here because is refreshing to read and the feminist in me wants to cheer her on. She seems to be the most understanding heroine around who kept giving chances to Caine no matter how many times he rejected her desire for more. I lost count how many times Caine screwed up a situation and Alexa just forgive him for being a douche.
Caine is such a lovable asshole because I understand where he is coming from. He is not being an asshole just because. He never manipulate or lie, he was pretty upfront with what he is willing to give. He is a man reluctant to expose his vulnerability. Of course Caine had his own endearing quality when he is being jealous of Alexa having a social life and sometimes he can even show his sweeter side. But the number of times that he pull away from Alexa makes me want to knock some sense into him. He frustrate me to no end. Eventhough I whole-heartedly rooting for him, I felt that he needs to spend the rest of his life making up to Alexa.
Overall, Hero is a delightful and easy read despite the whole love/hate theme. Recommended for those who love romantic comedy with a bossy hero, smartass heroine and whole loads of sexy times.
