it was amazing
bookshelves: germany, 2021

Memento quia pulvis es et in pulverem reverteris, as we are quite clearly told. Dust the mortar leaves behind, deeds of mortgage, houses and estates, a statue in a peaceful suburb where children as they play might ask, ' And who ' s that man?'

Steven Godin Hope you get to read some of his others as well, Ilse.

Ilse I have just started another one, Steven - Der Zug war pünktlich, in German. If I remember correctly, you have read that one too? This one was excellent, I am trying to collect my thoughts about it for a review but lack the time and energy to do it justice.

Chris Chapman One of my all time faves!

Ilse I was impressed, Chris, so glad I have finally read it! I was reluctant to read Böll because I associated him with a certain Catholicism that bothered me in my teens, but was sold from the first book I read by him (the silent angel) years ago. What a writer!

Mark, I remember my father reading and praising Böll when I was a child, also urging me to wait to read him until I had grown up a bit, as he thought this novel rather complex. Discovering your comment just now, I am on the same page as you, I want to read more by Böll. There is a copy of Group Portrait with Lady waiting here to be read, did you by chance read that one?

Ilse, thanks for sharing your father's thoughts on Böll! Group Portrait with Lady is now on my up next I haven't read but it just got bumped up. I've been on a reading-diet of confections over the holiday and this looks like this will lower any literary A1C to normal levels! I appreciate your reply and lead to a new read... m
