I have just started another one, Steven - Der Zug war pünktlich, in German. If I remember correctly, you have read that one too? This one was excellent, I am trying to collect my thoughts about it for a review but lack the time and energy to do it justice.
One of my all time faves!
I was impressed, Chris, so glad I have finally read it! I was reluctant to read Böll because I associated him with a certain Catholicism that bothered me in my teens, but was sold from the first book I read by him (the silent angel) years ago. What a writer!

Discovering your comment just now, I am on the same page as you, I want to read more by Böll. There is a copy of Group Portrait with Lady waiting here to be read, did you by chance read that one?
