it was amazing

This is no way I could put the words down how I feel about this book. In fact, I won't even try. The beauty of this book and how you feel about it, is not in the words on the pages, but the words that aren't on the pages. It is not what was said, but what wasn't said. It is tragic and though the setting might be based in fantasy or make believe, we would be fools to believe that what happens in this book (not literally what happens but on a greater scale- what happens)is not all around us. It is impossible to explain without spoiling it (even if I could spoil it for others I'd completely fail at explaining).

I thought I'd have to wait to write anything about this book but it hit me all at once which has evolved into this rambling review. I remember being in high school in my english lit class becoming an emotional mess over the mandatory reading not because I HAD to read the book but because the book moved me so emotionally. I feel that way now with Never Let Me Go. It has moved me as much as most of the classics did.

What are they harvesting their body parts? Ok, please don't tell me if you read the book & I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually but it is already killing me!"

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker Ok, i think I wrote that backwards- I told you I was confused.. I think Kathy is the donor or donee, I'm not sure. Oh whatever, maybe I should try continuing w/ the book! LOL

J.A. Saare It will ALL come together, trust me. I've read the book 4 times now and can honestly say it's my favorite book of all time now (took East of Eden off the top).

I hope you enjoy it.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker I'll trust you on this but my mind is spinning and it has only just begun! I'm at the mercy of the audiobook, otherwise I'd be reading this book nonstop to see what is going on!

J.A. Saare I'm so into this book my husband drove me to Atlanta to see it (3+ hour drive). :)

J.A. Saare To see the movie, I mean. Duh.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker 1st, now I know your great mother-in-law produced a great son! Wow, nice hubby! I have the Crest Theater right around the corner from me (2 miles away thankfully) that is playing the movie. If I love the book as much as most people do, I'll probably go this weekend!

J.A. Saare You are so lucky! I have the biggest crush on Andrew Garfield, so I want to see it again. It's different from the book, but with all the material covered, that's to be expected.

Just bring a BIG box of Kleenex. I bawled like a baby.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker Oh no, I bawl like a baby over everything. LOL

I can't even imagine the movie right now. I can't imagine how they portrayed some of the scenes from the book. I'm curious and I'm going probably tomorrow to check out the movie.

J.A. Saare Let's put it this way. I held myself together until we made it to the car. Then I broke down and sobbed. My husband was actually worried about me, until I explained I had the same reaction when I read the book.

Andrew Garfield is the perfect Tommy, Carey Mulligan is the perfect Kath, and Keira Knightly does a superb job of playing Ruth. Just keep in mind that if you hate crying in public, you might want to wait to leave the theater until it's empty.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker You made it to the car, that is impressive. I don't have that tear control. I must have some malfunctioning tear ducts. I can't stop them when they come. I have a pounding headache from holding my breathe for the last 20 minutes of the book along with the bawling I've been doing!

J.A. Saare Oh man, it was tough, and I did tear up. The only reason I made it is because I hate to cry in front of people. Trust me, I was practically choking the entire time.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker I see I can't spell in my posts above. LOL. Oh well. I'm going to the movie tomorrow by myself (which I rarely do) with a box of kleenax, hopefully that will be enough. Thanks for the recommendation (though you didn't actually recommend it, I was moved enough by your review to download the audiobook). I think I need cookies or ice cream or something....

J.A. Saare I want to recommend it to everyone, but I don't want to put people off. I hoped people would read my review and give it a shot, so I'm so glad you did (and that you enjoyed the book!).

Catherine Glad you loved it, Michelle! Sounds like it was an emotional read.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker I can see how someone would not like the book, the simplicity of the writing and the manner the story is told might come across as boring. I sat here and went through all the events in the book (after the book was done) and I finally undestood why those details were put into the book. It made sense but not until the end and not until I thought about it.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker Catherine, I loved the book and yes it was emotional. This time, my tears (which come way too easily when I read) were justified in my opinion. It is a tragic story.

Wicked Incognito Now I need to give this book another shot. I read the first few pages at the library once, and then put it back on the shelf. But it sounds like one of those life-changing memorable books.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker April, if it wasn't for people telling me to continue to read, I would have stopped after the first two chapters. It is very tedious at the beginning. Scratch that, it is tedious for 70% of the book. Nevertheless, the book makes sense in the end and it moved me greatly.

Wicked Incognito Now 70%! LOL!

I've heard a lot of people rave about this book, so I'll give it go.

Michelle, the Bookshelf Stalker April, I hope the book turns out to be something you enjoy this time!
