Never Let Me Go

This is no way I could put the words down how I feel about this book. In fact, I won't even try. The beauty of this book and how you feel about it, is not in the words on the pages, but the words that aren't on the pages. It is not what was said, but what wasn't said. It is tragic and though the setting might be based in fantasy or make believe, we would be fools to believe that what happens in this book (not literally what happens but on a greater scale- what happens)is not all around us. It is impossible to explain without spoiling it (even if I could spoil it for others I'd completely fail at explaining).
I thought I'd have to wait to write anything about this book but it hit me all at once which has evolved into this rambling review. I remember being in high school in my english lit class becoming an emotional mess over the mandatory reading not because I HAD to read the book but because the book moved me so emotionally. I feel that way now with Never Let Me Go. It has moved me as much as most of the classics did.

"I know the story is just beginning but I'm so confused. There has to be a reason for the tedious details of Kathy's life in Hailsham, right? Kathy is a donee since she talks of others as donor? What are they harvesting their body parts? Ok, please don't tell me if you read the book & I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually but it is already killing me!"

"So Kathy is so nonchalant about everything.. she's like "this is how it is" and ladedah (obviously it is hard to voice my frustration w/o giving spoilers. The sex conversation is pretty interesting."

"I want to b*tch slap Ruth. She annoys me so much. Kathy needs to gain a backbone, her willingness to excuse Ruth's behavior is driving me up the wall."

"I need to finish this book but my Mp3 needs to be charged. :( I feel like I'm just on the edge of figuring everything out. I almost don't want to since I know whatever it is, a box of Kleenax and alot of anger is involved."

"I almost fear reading (listening) to the rest of the book! My dog is waiting for her walk so off to listen to it. I don't work on Fridays so I will finish it today!"

"I'm done. I'm not sure what to write. I have to think about everything and just wait 24 hours before even knowing how I feel about this book."

"Between reading this book and seeing the pictures of the "Love and Sarrow felt by a Sparrow" (you can see it at if you are curious), I'm a weeping mess!"

I hope you enjoy it.

Just bring a BIG box of Kleenex. I bawled like a baby.

I can't even imagine the movie right now. I can't imagine how they portrayed some of the scenes from the book. I'm curious and I'm going probably tomorrow to check out the movie.

Andrew Garfield is the perfect Tommy, Carey Mulligan is the perfect Kath, and Keira Knightly does a superb job of playing Ruth. Just keep in mind that if you hate crying in public, you might want to wait to leave the theater until it's empty.
