it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy, favorite-authors, epic, owned-kindle, bingo-3rd-round, 2011-reads, favorites, blew-my-mind

10 stars One of the best books I have ever read.

This book is the best in the series so far. I loved every page, every paragraph. GRRM rewards readers who have stuck through the pain and the length and quite a bit of detail on the history and background of the characters is provided. There are so many big reveals in this book, I think if I had put status updates for each reveal every one of my status updates would have been, “WTF?! Yes, there is pain and loss in this book and GRRM raises the description of gore and violence to a level I did not imagine was possible. But despite the pain and the violence, I cannot wait to read Feast of Crows. And wow (view spoiler)

AH You started it! This one was a lot of fun - so many twists - I have new respect for some of the characters.

Regina My husband said this one was his favorite and #4 was his least favorite in the series.

The last 1/4 - 1/3 of Clash was fabulous. It was like WTF over and over.

message 3: by AH (new) - rated it 5 stars

AH There will be a lot of WTF moments in this one too. I think it's one of my favorites so far, but quite brutal.

Regina Sounds great! I need to read my bingo book before I become too enmeshed in Sword, also the last Dresden book is released this week. So I will only be reading a few chapters here and there.

message 5: by AH (new) - rated it 5 stars

AH That's the best way to do it. You need a break after some of the chapters.

Jessica I'm with your husband - this one was absolutely my favorite and #4 is my least.

Regina I am seeing why people say this one was their favorite. It has been amazing from page 1.

Regina Ladies, I am so upset! I cannot believe what GRRM did a little over halfway through this book! I still love the book though, the best one in the series. And I guess, GRRM gets lots of points for being true to the story.

message 9: by AH (new) - rated it 5 stars

AH I guess you got to one of the WTF moments in this book.

Regina LOL. I thought I had gotten through the biggest WTF moments, this one was like WTFFFFFF?!

Shera (Book Whispers) Goodness. I need to start on this sereis so I can join in the WFTness.

Regina haha. :) I was tense all night after I put the book down to sleep, I kept focusing on one tension filled encounter I thought was comoing (view spoiler) But apparantly I wasn't focused on the right things (view spoiler)

Jessica I was wondering if you had gotten to that part yet. I remember the first time I read it I went back and reread the chapter because I was in complete denial.

Regina I was too! I kept re-reading it also!

message 15: by AH (new) - rated it 5 stars

AH Keep reading. There are some even better moments. (view spoiler)

Christy IF ONLY book four could be as good. I am still trudging through it. The dangling carrot for me is the hope that book five returns to the intensity of book three.

Regina Oh no! I guess the other thing is we have years to get through it since 6 song be out for a long time. Christy I remember after you finished 3 you desperately wanted to discuss it. Do you remember what you wanted to discuss?

message 18: by Jess (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jess Aww I LOVE The Hound, (not a good actor? like on the show?) I do agree with you that this is the best book in the series by far, amazing!

Regina Jessi I actually really like him too. I think his character was one of the very interesting ones GRRM wrote. GRRM is so good at contrasting darkness with light in one person. I wrote my review fast on my phone, what I meant to say is that it is so easy to sympathize with him and see the good effect or result of some of his actions but ultimately I don't trust him because of his choices and because of how he has aligned himself in the past. Maybe he didn't have a choice, he clearly regretted those actions. I guess (view spoiler)

I am sort of sad to hear that I am ritht and that Sword is the best in the series. :( Hopefully #6 comes back as a super compelling book.

Jess Its just with the last 2 books that came out you felt you were only getting half the story. 4 &5 are split by geography so in 4 Tyrion and Danerys do not appear but Littlefinger and Sansa do, but in the 5th it is the other way round. They are good books but Swords hits it out of the park.

message 21: by L-D (new) - rated it 5 stars

L-D I have to re-read this before I read the most recent book. The only one I really remember is the first one and that's only because the HBO series "refresher". Maybe I"ll wait for HBO to catch up before I read the last book ;)

Regina I would definitely wait, there is no rush! A friend of mine said to me, whenever someone complains about GRRM not publishing his books fast enough he kills off a (view spoiler). LOL, it feels true. ;)

Jessi, I am glad that 4 and 5 are good, I can handle good or very good. #2 felt that way after #1.
