*** 3 Oh' Brother Stars***
It appears I'm in the minority once again :-(



I finished Brother last night and well..... I didn't love it :-(
With that said, I honestly believe the reason lies with me. I read a lot of fucked up stories, so while most readers had this reaction while reading . . .


My, as well as Carla's reaction ( yeah, I'm throwing her under the bus with me ) was more along the lines of this . . .


We I wanted more gore. . . violence.... fuckery ...Hell, All of the Above. My biggest problem with the book were the characters themeselves. I had a difficult time wrapping my head around their actions. I'd like to explain but in doing so I fear I will spoil the story. I will try my best not to, but just in case, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not open the spoiler tag until you've read the book. (view spoiler)[

* Wade - WTF BRO? Wade wasn't evil like 2 other members of his family, nor was he a hero. He was just, there. Why did he put up with his wife's shit, especially after she killed _____? Why the hell did he help Rebel fetch his new 'pet'? Why didn't his ass have a J. O. B ? What was his purpose?

* Momma/Claudine- Why the hell was she such a royal bitch? I understand that her father molested her, but why was so abusive of Misty/ her daughters ? It felt like she resented them, but why? Did I miss something? Are they her fathers kids? I guess the mother hen in me assumes that since she was a victim of child abuse, she would protect her daughters, not torment them. And where the hell did her craving for chick- A-fil come from ?

*Reb/ Rebel/ Ray/ Raymond- I could not stand his character. He was a douche from start to finish... I give him props for consistency.

*Michael- Why didn't you run Forest ? God, he drove me fucking crazy. He was so damn gullible, yet not nearly as naive as he appears to be. Sorry to say but when Michael wasn't frustrating me, I found his character to be rather dull. He makes EEyore look like an emotional wreck. I hated that he didn't fight to protect Misty ... yet, he sure the hell did for Alice. I could not for the life me figure out why he was Rebel's puppet? I understand children are easy to manipulate, but you'd think Michael would eventually realize he doesn't need his brother nor does Rebel give a shit about him. Also,I wanted to read about the first time he butchered the 'meat'. What was his reaction? Annndd...... Nah, less is more sometimes.

* Misty- My favorite character. Why were you taken from me so soon? IMHO she was the most fleshed out character. I was team Misty fuck Alice.

* Alice- In my bias opinion, her character wasn't needed. The connection between Alice & Michael happened so fast, I suffered whiplash. Granted they were ____ but they didn't know that. Now, the connection between Michael and Misty , I did understand. Again, I wish the author had built upon Misty and Michael's relationship rather than Alice ... but that's just me being a pain in the ass. (hide spoiler)]


With all my rambling aside, Brother wasn't a bad story by any means. It definitely pushed some of my emotional buttons ---> Rage, thanks to Rebel. Frustration, thanks to Michael, & heartbreak, thanks to Misty, yet the characters felt emotionless. Go figure.

Brother has numerous 5 star reviews by much more normal reviewers than I . Please read their reviews and decide if this Brother from another mother is the right guy for you.
