I can't praise this memoir enough. Not only does Mr. King validate my entire creative process (which, until this reading, I thought of as uniquely my own), but he is encouraging and optimistic and he breaks down his habits, failures and successes in the most approachable and appealing way.
I loved this book, and I can't wait to read it again.

“...stopping a piece of work just because it’s hard, either emotionally or imaginatively, is a bad idea. Sometimes you have to go on when you don’t feel like it, and sometimes you’re doing good work when it feels like all you’re managing is to shovel shit from a sitting position.”

He not only won the battle, he created a monster. I went on to rip through several King novels after this memoir, and I think 11/22/63 is one of the best books that was ever written. A close runner-up is his collection of four novellas, Different Seasons.

I have been organizing my bookshelves here on GRs for days, and I wonder if I just made this one pop up in my feed?
I can't recommend this one enough. It's a memoir and a "writing guide," to an extent, and it's fantastic.

I think I am definitely going to get my hands on this one. I have been looking for works which explore a writer's mind.
I totally agree, Julie. Loved this book and great review!
