Wait a sec...
Fuck the five stars!
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
It actually hurts to give it only five. Need I say that this book must be considered one of the wonders of mankind? Would it be necessary to talk about Dostoyevsky's extraordinary ability to create such interesting and realistic characters, or the fact that he was a master of the human psyche? This, of course, is an understatement. Check Ivan Karamazov's encounter with the devil if you don't believe me. In fact, the whole novel is a unique proof of this statement. From the first, introductory pages to the redemptive finale, this novel is a pure masterpiece. I honestly think that books like The Brothers Karamazov defined literature the way bands like The Beatles defined music.
Enough said.

Nikos Tsentemeidis Πως πάει;

Jim και The Girl διαβάστε το...

Zaki I've never read this nor any Dostoevsky to be honest but i highly revere the man and his works by hearing what other people have to say about him and reading analysis of his works. I know about the grand inquisitor section of brothers karamazov.

Chris_P Hi Zaki, thanks for commenting. Well, I firmly believe he was one of the greatest writers Earth has ever given birth to. I suggest you give him a chance and I'm sure you will come to this conclusion as well.

Zaki I think you're right. I'm going to start with Notes from the Underground. As for the heftier tomes he's written, I have a very short attention span Chris.

Chris_P I think Notes from the Underground is an excellent choice. One of my favourites. It's true that a short attention span can be a problem when reading his "Big Ones", as his works need all the attention one can give them. Don't be discouraged though. Start with his short ones, like the Underground (The Dream of a Ridiculous Man is even shorter but great) and you never know. Maybe you'll find yourself so hooked to his writing that your attention span won't be a problem. That wouldn't surprise me, actually.

Zaki thanks for the advice pal. I have read Crime and Punishment in a graphic novel version and my curiosity of this writer was piqued. I like the idea of the Notes from the Underground because it's in the Underground where I dwell, sadly.

Chris_P Well, in this case I think you'll love it. It's the Holy Bible of all the underground dwellers and the misfits of the world. Dostoevsky always dealt with such characters. And he painted them with the most detail. Crime and Punishment changed something in me the first time I read it. I think you should try the original, too. In fact, I think you should read them all!
Don't mention it mate.
