Before we get started
-Please,please do not judge a book by its movie.
-I read Eragon for the first time when I was 15 years old.I've re-read it 5 times since (I didn't own many books back then so after I took advantage of my neighbor's and my cousin's library,I kept re-reading my poor collection) and every time I loved it just the same,because it was the book that introduced me to the world of fantasy.
The story
When I got this beauty in my hands,I thought that Eragon was the dragon (laugh all you want,I deserve it).But it turns out Eragon is the teenage boy who finds the dragon named Saphira and together they are the only ones who can fight the powerful and corrupted tyrant Galbatorix.With an old storyteller as his mentor,Eragon travels in Alagaesia,finds dwarves and elves and rebels and embraces his heritage and his responsibility as the last Dragonrider,the protector of the weak and the only hope of an oppressed people.

Thoughts
I know there is a great amount of readers who found this book boring and slow paced and nothing special.Maybe if I read it for the first time as an adult I would agree,maybe I wouldn't.But as things turned out,this is the first book that took me away in uncharted lands,it was my Brom to the fantasy world.I know by heart the ancient language,I still use the dwarven curses (and it is very satisfactory),I still look at it with great affection and love.Eragon could be immature but it is expected from a teenager,and there were so many interesting and vivid characters,like Brom and Murtagh and Arya and Roran and Orik.The world building is fascinating,and there are epic battles and ancient swords and deaths and magic and prophecies.
It is a wonderful journey to embrace one's destiny and purpose.
And that's exactly what Eragon is.I can't guarantee that you will like this book,but you should give it a chance to bewitch you and make you a Dragonrider!

Great review! I love the Inheritance Cycle! Have you heard that Christopher Paolini is writing a fifth one?

Good review, as always.:) This is one of my favorite series. I think a lot of problems people had were with the author's obvious influences and in thinking it wasn't well written. I absolutely loved it though, and loved the familiar themes.I know plenty of adults who love it, so I guess it comes down to preferences and expectations going in not maturity. And you're right. You can't judge a book by it's movie. The movie was horrible!
I've heard about the 5th book. I don't think it will be out for some time though. I'm curious who he will bring back.

I agree with everything you wrote,yes there were similarities but there was something refreshing about Paolini's writing!This series was an emotional roller coaster,after I finished the last book I wouldn't eat for two days!And it's good to know there are other people who love it as well!
I'm also curious because in Inheritance he wrapped up things perfectly!

The movie didn't do the book justice,even though there were some great casting choices (I mean it's Jeremy Irons,it should have been good for Heaven's sake!)
That movie was bad, but not as horrible as The last Airbender movie. The funny thing is, they are working on a sequel for The last Airbender
A sequel??Really?Well they couldn't produce an Eragon sequel because they butchered the plot in the first movie!

One of the best review I have read so far. Very good.
I loved this book so much! I devoured the first three books and then I had to wait for the inheritance to be released. I loved it. But when I became active on GR I saw that there are many negative reviews...Glad you loved it too... <3

Didn't it feel like a door to a brand new world opened?I haven't re-read it recently because I'm afraid the negativity will affect me!I haven't read it in a long time as well! After reading Eldest, I couldn't bring myself to read the next 2 books for some unknown reason :P

This book was my life when I was thirteen. I would read the series up to Brisingr (Inheritance wasn't released yet) and then read it all over again and again. All the way until Inheritance was released. I've lost count xDI will always love these books. Forever!

After turning the last page of Inheritance, I locked myself in the bathroom and cried for a good long while. (view spoiler) was just too much.

I should also re-read this series some day :-) It was also my intro to high fantasy and I´m really curious how much I would enjoy it today.

It is, the entire series is! I simply love it!
Wonderful review, definitely one of my favorite series. Just like most other books though the movie kinda messes stuff up.
Don’t judge this book by the movie rather by what’s inside the book and just perhaps the cover too(for once)
ha, I read the companion, Tales from Alagaesia ( sue me if I spelled it wrong, everyone does) and it took me maybe 120 pages to figure out Eragon is a human.
