Holy Cow!!! I love this story and it truly gets better every time I read it. Witch if I'm being honest it has been many many times. Richelle Mead has this way of drawing you in with every single word. The writing style, the world, the characters, everything is just so fantastic! Truly...

I have read a lot of books and Rose has to be my all-time favorite heroine. She is just so awesome, even with all her flaws... Rose can be implosive and bitchy. In this second book she experiences some jealousy and resentment! (view spoiler)[Towards her mom Janine Hathaway for never being there. Because she choose to be a Guardian instead of raising her daughter. This is very common for Dhampir women to do. Roses mom is also very good at what she does and that's being a Guardian above all else. Also toward Tasha Ozera, Christian cousin for wanting Dimitri to become her personal Guardian and she wanted a relationship with him. It would be so easy for them unlike it is for Rose and Dimitri. And towards her BFF Lissa and Christian because Rose has to share her now. She has always had Lissa to herself and shes also jealous because Lissa and Christian can be so open about there relationship. Whereas Rose has to keep everything she feels for Dimitri secret. (hide spoiler)] Rose was raised to believe the Moroi always come 1st. Always above all else!! Even yourself.

(view spoiler)[A few times Rose tells things that were meant to be confidential when shes pissed! And it leads to really bad circumstances. She starts to date her friend Mason Ashford. Rose knows how great he is and she thinks maybe she can make it work and it would be easy with Mason. Mason is your typical all around good guy who has it bad for Rose. Mason is hot, funny, charming and protective. All good things right? But you can't force a connection. Rose soon realizes this too. She didn't mean to use him, she was just trying to move on but her feelings for Dimitri are too strong to overlook. Remember when I said Rose tells thing that were told in confidentiality? Well Dimitri tells her that the Guardians believe there to be Strigoi in Spokane and Rose tells (go figure right?)... Anyways Rose goes to break the news to Mason about how she feels, to find out He, Eddie and Mia left to go kill some Strigoi. Rose and Christian leave to bring them back but things never go as planned. ALL OF THEM GET CAPTURED! Skip all the juicy bits...and Mason ends up dead :( Its so devastating. Rose losses it and Kills his killers. She takes it so hard and blames herself for what happened. Roses mom was there for her after Mason died and they hoped to have a much better relationship in the future.

Rose is one of those "I tend to punch first and then find out who I actually hit later." kinda girls. Sure she makes mistakes but that's a part of growing up. I love watching her character grow in every book.
