Five HUGE Stars for Trevor Noah's book! Believe the hype! I absolutely loved it. I listened to the audio. Trevor narrates his stories of growing up in South Africa. I highly recommend the audio version. He made this book come to life with his narration. This would actually make a good first listen.
I just became a fan recently of his and thought I'd give the book a shot. I'm so happy I did! I learned a lot about apartheid and I learned a lot about South Africa. I also learned some gross facts like the poorest of people eat worms. At one point he and his family were so poor that they were eating them. Yuck!
Trevor had me laughing. Trevor had me crying. Highly recommended to fans of his and/or people who just want to learn about life in South Africa during apartheid. Great book!

Fantastic review Jennifer. I just started listening to the audiobook myself this afternoon and I am already fascinated. Love reading you suggestion to make this a first listening. For people that are new to audiobooks it's important to find an engaging listen.

Thanks Jennifer for a great review. I honestly had no interest in this book until I read your review (which led me to other reviews!) - definitely going to take your advice and listen to it on audio. I've been to South Africa and know can't wait to get to thus on my daily hikes! Honestly, I thought this was a comedy type book. Thank you !

If you have been to South Africa then you check it out. It's funny at times but it's not a standup book. The audio is so good. :)

Just finished listening to the audiobook this afternoon Jennifer and totally agree with your comments, this is a very powerful memoir.Also so true about Trevor's narration was perfect. I especially enjoyed his Mandela impersonation, spot on!

My mom just bought this one for my brother in law for xmas. Heard such good things about it! I'm sure he will love it!!! Great review :)
I'm listening this as an audiobook and am thrilled. He does a perfect job in narrating his life story - which, from my point of view from the safe and quiet Finland sounds just so unjust, horrible - but then again, there is so much hope and freedom in the story.

Great review. Agree that the audiobook was terrific!
I listened to it on audiobook as well, it was perfection! Noah is such a great storyteller, and I can't imagine reading the print version would be nearly as good as listening to it. I found myself sitting in the car, wanting to hear just a little bit more, before going in places. I was so sad when it was over!
Wonderful review, Jennifer! I have not read this - yet - but my younger brother keeps bugging me to read it. Noah must have done a presentation at the Miami Book Fair, because the two books he came away really excited about were this and The Nix. I'm looking forward to this someday, just not sure when.
Great review, Jennifer! I really enjoyed this one, too. I can imagine the audiobook would be even better.
