bookshelves: peruvian-20th-c, fiction, novels, nobel-lit, erotica

A tantalizing erotic fairy tale follow on to In Praise of the Stepmother, The Notebooks of Don Rigoberto is part inverted Lolita, part Sade, part Eyes Wide Shut but with a plethora of beautiful analogies to literature and art. All the detail and imagery of Egon Schiele (my favorite Austrian Expressionist artist) was wonderful as well as all the biographical details. The scandalous love triangle of Fonchito, Lucretia and Rigoberto is less pronounced than in the previous book, but this one was better written and more complex in structure. It is certainly his best erotic novel and a truly interesting read.

It is sort of a sequel to In Praise of the Stepmother, but the latter is not a hard prerequisite. The sensuality of Rigoberto is really tantalizing and beautifully written,"
