Fascinating, really creative and interesting.

4+ Stars may vary as I think on it.

Listened to the audiobook. The sound effects for the aliens and the language of the ambassadors was really well done. The overall narration was less so...

carol. Sounds about right. Well, at least the first 25%.

Monica Yeah, I'm about 50% in now and it is slowly coming together though I'm still muddled a bit. But I am invested...

carol. Are you listening to it?

Monica I am. I also have the kindle version for reinforcement. Probably won't get to much of it for the next 2 days. The name of the host that looks like a fraction has an interesting effect in the audio book.

carol. Hm, wonder if that's part of it. It's very dense.

Monica It's definitely a complex book. I actually think it's coming together better than something like "Quantum Thief". I'm invested enough (and it's short enough) that if it doesn't, I'll probably start listening to it again... I'm at the part where they killed the host and all the ambassadors are becoming un-synched and it's anarchy in Embassytown and the hosts are jonesing for some asynchronized language...

Gary Embassytown is one of my all-time favorite SF books. Reading about how the hosts' language sounds was interesting enough, but now I'm interested in hearing the sound effects used in the audiobook - I guess it never dawned on me that they would do something like that but now it makes complete sense to me that they would have to. Thanks for pointing it out, Monica.

Thanks Gary!! Its such a complex book, one almost needs to both read and listen. I think I need to mull over the book and maybe reread some sections before I can truly understand. But it was incredibly imaginative and smart!

MadProfessah It's one of my least favorite SF Books. I don't see why reading and enjoying it needs to be so difficult

I enjoy a book that challenges or pushes my imagination. One that makes me think. Complex to me doesn't necessarily mean difficult to like. The implications in this book will have me pondering for a while...and I like that.

Have you read The Quantum Thief? That was some overly complex stuff that I didn't much like. But yeah, I enjoyed this one.
