Damn! This book had so much promise with a creepy plot and the writing was very atmospheric at times.
BUT, here's the problem with this book. I liked no one in this book, the descriptions got a bit too wordy and I lost some of the scare factor at the end. I was just happy that the (view spoiler)
It was also a bit longer then needed to be! I still liked some of the creepy moments in Hex and it was still addicting to read at the end. I couldn't quit reading to find out what would happen to Black Spring! And for that, I'm adding an extra star.
I will definitely read more books by Thomas Olde Heuvelt because I see talent with his writing and plot concepts.

I will read it as I have a copy on the bookshelf, maybe just not next on the list, I have a couple of ARC's to read and others on the shelf I can't wait to get to! Haha.
Ginger, I totally agree. The book description for this one sounded great, and I think it was somewhat inaccurate. Also, nothing much to the characters, and more gross than scary. Damn.

Great review, Ginger! This book was a huge disappointment for me. It was a good idea and might have even worked as a miniseries or something, but that ending....

I was addicted too! Haha. I just got done reading Diane S’s review now yours has me grinning because I had some of the same thoughts! I liked Katherine the most too! And I think it depends on the reader but yes, I think it WAS supposed to be that way for the intelligent reader.

You're definitely supposed to root for the witch at the end when you realize the curse was fundamentalism and mob mentality and the way history repeats itself because no one cares to learn and change the cycles of suffering!!! Katherine was never the curse, the town was the curse.
