it was amazing

‘for you, a thousand times over.

no words can describe the heaviness i am feeling in my heart right now.

i will never re-read this as it is too emotionally devastating (i genuinely cant remember the last time a book made me cry so much), but i know it is a story that will stay will me for the rest of my life. of that, i have no doubt.

also, john, thanks for recommending this book, but i will be sending you my bill for all the therapy i will need after this.

Laura Machado I felt the same when I read it. And whenever one of his new books come out, I brace myself. I so desperately need to read them but at the same time I do not want to read them. The first always wins because they are too important to be missed, but what a heart wrenching journey it is...

jessica ALL of his books are like this?! guess i will need to do some massive emotional preparing before i pick another one of them. so glad you feel reading them worthwhile, laura!

I only read the Kite Runner and a Thousand Splendid Suns, which for me was even more devastating... I have TBR And the Mountains Echoed, but am waiting for that day when I feel strong and sane and ready to face this world of ours...

±õ²Ôê²õ "a thousand splendid suns" is NEXT on my tbr. have you read it? it will be the first i read of the author!

Virginia Ronan ♥ Herondale ♥ I felt exactly the same way after finishing this book. *sends hugs*

jessica laura - i completely understand the feeling and i am right there beside you, 100%!

ines - i havent! i own it, but its been sitting on my shelf for ages. a friend recommended reading 'the kite runner' first. according to laura, 'a thousand splendid suns' is just as emotionally brutal, so good luck!!

kitty - so happy to hear you had a good reading experience with this!! :)

virginia - yesss! i need all the hugs! thank you so much!! <3

Amber’s reading One of my favorite books of all time, but also the saddest! I also highly recommend A Thousand Splendid Suns. It's even better.

Aqsa I completely understand. I felt the same. But it's a story worth reading :)

Nice review :)

jessica amber - sooo happy to hear how much you loved this!! i will definitely give 'a thousand splendid suns' a try!! :)

aqsa - thank you so much!! im glad you felt similarly! <3

Amani I don't know if you read A Thousand Splendid Suns by him but it made me cry even more. Mistakenly read it on the train and will never do that again with one of his books.

Dr. Rida I know right..i felt this way after reading this book. It just broke me in so many ways..

jessica amani - ahhh. i have heard that from so many people regarding 'a thousand splendid suns.' i will definitely need to prepare myself emotionally before i pick that one up!

rida - same, girl. same. *sends hugs*

Cami McIntosh I seriously couldn't stop thinking about these characters for WEEKS after I read it. Such a beautifully heartbreaking story.

jessica it was soooo brutal. i had to put it down multiple times because of how overwhelming it was. but i agree. definitely a book i will be thinking about for a long time. so happy you found the story meaningful, cami!! <3

Richard Dominguez I will read it again, but you are so right I was moved to a degree I didn't think a story could touch me. I also agree that if for some unforeseen reason I might not read it again, it is a story that will stay with me forever.

Miranda Butterfield I also thought that this book was very emotional. All of the themes tied into the book are still relatable in the fact that everyone is facing some type of struggle in their life, even though it may not be as severe as Amir's was.

jessica i completely agree! im really glad you were able to get something out of this, like i did!

Lucy Bertsch I very much agree with this review. The book was very intense and sad. Almost every moment is a heart wrenching scene. The pain that you go through while reading this is insane. I enjoyed the book, but I hated reading it knowing that something sad would happen. When you add in the rape and stoning , along with the Taliban, there is no way that this book could be happy.

Yashfa Mutual thoughts! It no doubt is emotionally draining and heart-breaking but at the same time hauntingly beautiful and has the power to make you a better person if you allow it.

Richard Dominguez I agree 100% (except i will re-read this again), this story is an emotional claymore (landmine). But and it may be me, I never notice anyone mention that under all that death and destruction, there is an underlying theme of love that carries to the end of the book. A love so faithful that it would not be defeated. A love that allowed for stepping up and doing the right thing for all the right reasons. A reminder also that when it is over, when we are home and safe, there is still always hope. This book is a once in a life time treat and I thank God I didn't miss out on it.

Kiley Simpson Agreed. One of my favorite quotes from the book.
