For all my lovely contacts who loved this book and sang its praises, I wish to take nothing away from your opinions or enjoyment. I get how you could love this novel if you loved this genre. I think it was a good police procedural, with a strong “detective in Aaron Falk and a feasible plot. The problem for me is that I find I am not pulled into these novels in the same way I was years ago. I seldom find the mystery solution surprises me, and I am tired of senselessly dead girls. Points to Harper for not withholding any information...the clues are there from the beginning to point you in the right direction, should you dare to go.

If murder mysteries are your taste, this one is well-done, with excellent character development. I particularly liked some of the secondary characters--Raco, the small town policeman Falk is helping to investigate the crime; Ellie, the dead girl; and Luke, who is also dead when the story opens.

Back to my more common fare tomorrow.

Canadian Jen I enjoyed this more than you, but appreciate your great Review!

Sara Thanks, Jen. I knew it would, deservedly, have a better audience than myself.

Barbara I gave it 4 stars but probably because everyone was raving about the book. Looking back, it may be more 3.5 and so 4 is a bit high. Like you, the crimes were a bit too much. It's been a while so I can't really remember why I wasn't as thrilled with the book as others.

Sara Yes, it has been a while for me as well and I find I remember very little about it now. Usually a sign of a mediocre book if you really cannot call up any details after only seven months.

Kevin Ansbro This considered and accommodating review does you credit, Sara. Great job.

Sara Thank you, Kevin. I hate to review genres that I don't have an affinity for. Much harder to judge the quality for me than with the literature I generally read.
