it was amazing
bookshelves: favorites, historical-fiction

As a history nerd, I have always wanted to go back and see history first hand. On my visit to London I would stand in certain castles, areas, etc and just wish I could go back in time. Well, in Mariana, Julia gets to do just that. She is drawn to a 16th century farmhouse, which she buys.
She starts having images and strange connections with the people of the town. Then suddenly she finds herself reliving her prior life in the 17th century. History fans will enjoy her experience. Her uncle is a Puritan who wants to bring back the Cromwell years, while the man she falls in love with supports the King. As she transports between both worlds, we hang on to every page. This is a wonderful read. Kearsley once again transported and moved me, like only she can. If you haven't picked up any of her books, Do!

Rio (Lynne) Looks like more Kearsley's are being US released. This one is also out now as of 04/12.

Misfit Yeah, Sourcebooks has been working on that, which is great for us poor fans.

Rio (Lynne) I bought this one and Shadowy Horses through amazon used, but I hope they release Named of the Dragon. I also see Splendour Falls looks like it's coming soon also. Amazon is showing it with a new cover with an alert to sign up when available.

Misfit My library has Named of the Dragon so you might want to try requesting via ILL (interlibrary loan). They used to have Shadowy Horses and I had a go at that but it wasn't grabbing me. Wrong mood.

Splendor Falls is one I'd like to try, and the used prices are so OTT I'm surprised they've waited this long.

Rio (Lynne) Good to know about Dragon.
As for grabbing me, Season of Storms was that way with me.

Anna I think it's just me that doesn't get Kearsley!

Rio (Lynne) Sorry Anna. Is it the characters you don't relate to or the storylines?

Jemidar Anna, is it just this one you're referring to? Because this is the least favourite of mine and I don't get what all the fuss is about but absolutely love some of her other books.

Anna Rio, I don't know why she doesn't work for me - the combo of history, past secrets and romance should be an easy winner, but for me, they're lacking something that I just can't put my finger on.

J, I've only read Mariana and The Winter Sea/Sophia's Secret and rated them both 3 stars. As I gave 5 stars to Every Secret Thing (by SK under different name), Hannah's recommended I try Season of Storms which she says is more mystery based, like Every Secret Thing.

Rio (Lynne) I have those, but I'm not a mystery fan. I didn't care for Season of Storms.

Anna Nor did Hannah, but she thought it might appeal to me more than a typical SK!

I like books with more of a mystery too. My favourite Kearsley is Every Secret Thing. I have Season of Storms tucked away in my vacation book bag. Only what I think will be really good books make it to the vacation bag.

Jemidar I adored Every Secret Thing and loved Season of Storms, and I agree Anna that you might like SoS better. It's one of my favourites. I've also loved the others I've read though, except this one which I also gave three stars.

Rio (Lynne) It's funny how we all interpret them. I think our mood also has a lot to do with it.

Kim I haven't been overwhelmed by the Kearsleys I've read so far (Every Secret Thing and The Winter Sea). But I like mystery and theatre and Italy, so I'm hoping that SoS will appeal. I plan to read it in the next few weeks.

Rio (Lynne) I look forward to seeing what you guys think of it.
