I've been saying for the last year, since I originally read this, that I would come back and write a full review, but honestly, the immediate post-read reaction I wrote below sums it up pretty well. I absolutely freaking loved everything about Misery and I think Annie is one of the most terrifying villains I've ever read in my life. As someone who doesn't tend to enjoy most of King's longer works, please let me know in a comment if you have any recommendations for books of his that are closer to this one in length and overall feeling!

original "review": march 2019:
me, a week ago: I dunno man I've tried a few King books and collections and maybe they're just not meant for me
also me, a week ago: I'm gonna give Misery a try but I'm not expecting too much tbh
me, now: WHAT IN THE NAME OF ALL THE OLD GODS DID I JUST READ, WOW
Full review coming soon! Thank you so much to the eternally beloved Ellyn for buddy reading this with me and motivating me to finally give it a try! 💗💗💗

I've never seen the movie, though just knowing Kathy Bates is in it had be picturing her in my mind while reading this. 😂 I think I'm gonna rent the movie from Amazon Prime Video this weekend.

Ahh! I hope you enjoy the movie!

I've tried a few of his older novels, and DNFed all of them besides Pet Sematary, which I actually want to finish soon, and Night Shift, the short story collection, which I thought was just okay. Maybe his work is just hit and miss for us!

Thank you!

This was seriously incredible. It makes me want to pick up something else by him ASAP!

I haven't seen the movie so I can't compare them (though I'm planning on watching it this weekend), but I thought the book was awesome! I'll try to remember to come back and let you know what I think of it compared to the movie after I watch it! :D

Ohh thanks so much! Id appreciate that. I have the book but keep passing it up but your review has got me interested. The movie is good. Well I like it.

The Green Mile is probably what I'm reading next! I've got the little bitty mini-books on my shelf.

No problem! <3

Ohh awesome! What's your second fave haha?"
Hmmmm. IT. SK is really hit of miss for me. I liked Misery the best BY FAR. But also really liked IT and The Shining.

I want to check out The Shining! I tried the audio of IT last October and sadly ended up DNFing it something like 350-400pg in, I think. It was good but I got really tired of the constant slur usage. :( I might try it again someday when I'm feeling more up to dealing with it.

No, I wish! We ended up being super busy all weekend and I never got the chance. Hopefully tomorrow!

Thank you! <3

I could totally see that, though!

It's such a wild ride haha. I hope you like the end!

It was soooo good!"
I've read The Institute and 22/11/63 and really enjoyed them! But they're not Stephen King's scary ones. They're more his speculative/scifi/not scifi either/supernatural fiction. I think a need a scary one now! :D

Thank you for the recommendations! I haven't tried either of those but I will have to give them a chance. :D

I hope you enjoy it! What are some of your favorites of his books?

Pet Sematary is the one I most want to read! I started the audiobook a while back and was really enjoying it but it was while my son was a teensy baby and I couldn't really handle (view spoiler) in stories, so I put it down to try again when he's older.

I completely understand, it is mentioned quite a bit after a while. I hope you'll be able to get through it alright once you decide you're ready to pick it up again!

Thank you, love! <3

Not yet - I keep meaning to! I'm actually gonna go peek at JustWatch right now and see if it's on any streaming services, and if not, I'll probably just grab it next time I'm at the used bookstore.

Awesome, thank you for the recommendations! I do like supernatural horror but it seems like so far I've had the best luck with the less supernatural stuff from King, so I'm adding Dolores Claiborne to my list right now!
