it was amazing

Wow, where do I start with this. First off, Daemon is freakin' HOT! But OMGosh is he a jerk. He's hot, he's cold. He's turned on, he's not. He's likable, he's angry. UGH! He just tosses Katy around like a wet rag. And yet, she takes it. This kind of pisses me off. She does have a lot of witty come backs and such, but because she is also attracted to him, it totally skews how she reacts in so many situations.
I like the alien theme in this book. It's definitely developed well. You know there's something off, but had you not read about the book before, you wouldn't know exactly what it is until the truck scene happens.
The scene in her house when he is telling her they must get rid of her trace is INTENSE. But again, it pissed me off because he just up and leaves, argh!
I would love to see more development of the others characters: Andrew, Ash, Adam.
All in all I liked this book well enough. Not top on my paranormal list, but I will definitely read the next one.
Oh, and there was a little tease of the Shadows (Lux, #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout at the end of the book. So I will be getting that one next. I like that it's from Daemon and Dawson's point of view. It definitely shows where Daemon is coming from.

“It’s better than calling someone a douchebag, isn’t it? He pushed out the door. “This has been a stimulating visit. I’ll cherish it for a long time to come.

Okay. That was it. “You know, you’re right. How wrong of me to call you a douchebag. Because a douchebag is too nice of a word for you, I said, smiling sweetly. “You’re a dickhead.

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“For a moment, I pretended. Not that we weren't two different species, because I didn't see him that way, but that we actually liked each other.

And then he shifted and rolled. I was on my back, and he was still on the move. His face burrowed into the space between my neck and shoulder, nuzzling. Sweet baby Jesus...Warm breath danced over my skin, sending shivers down my body. His arm was heavy against my stomach, his leg between mine, pushing up and up. Scorched air fled my lungs.

Daemon murmured in a language I couldn't understand. Whatever it was, it sounded beautiful and soft. Magical. Unearthly.

I could've woken him up but for some reason I didn't. The thrill of him touching me was far stronger than anything else.

His hand was on the edge of the borrowed shirt, his long fingers on the strip of exposed flesh between the hem on the shirt and the band of the worn pajama bottoms. And his hand inched up under the shirt, across my stomach, where it dipped slightly. My pulse went into cardiac territory. The tips of his fingers brushed my ribs. His body moved, his knee pressed against me.

I gasped.

Daemon stilled. No one moved. The clock on the wall ticked.

And I cringed.”

“You don't look like an alien!' It seemed important to point that out.

He arched a brow. 'And what do aliens look like?'

'Not...not like you,' I sputtered. 'They aren't gorgeous--'

Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“What's your deal?" I asked in the hallway after class. "I know you did that."

He shrugged. "So?"
... "That was rude, Daemon. You embarrassed him." ... "And I thought using your ... stuff would draw them here?"
... "That was barley a blip on the map. That didn't even leave a trace on anyone."
He lowered his head until the edges of his dark curled brushed my cheek. I was caught between wanting to crawl into my locker or crawl into him. "Besides, I was doing you a favor."
I laughed. "And how was that doing me a favor?"
... "Studying math wasn't what he had in mind."
That was debatable, but I decided to play along ... "And what if that's the case?"
"You like Simon?" His chin jerked up, anger flashing in his emerald eyes. "You can't possibly like him."
... "Are you jealous? ... Your jealous of Simon?" I lowered my voice. "Of a human? For shame, Daemon.”

“You look like you're twelve. No. Maybe thirteen, but my sister has this doll that kinda reminds me of you. All big-eyed and vacant.”

“Aliens—if they exist—are little green men with big eyes and spindly arms or…or giant insects or something like a lumpy

“Daemon: I checked out your blog.
Katy: Stalking me again, I see. Do I need to get a restraining order?
Daemon: In your dreams, Kitten. Oh wait, I'm already starring in those, aren't I?

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“I didn't want to spoil the mood. This was probably the longest Daemon and I had ever spoken without some statement earning him the finger.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“I couldn't stop staring at his mouth when he spoke. I bet he knew how to kiss. Perfect kisses too, ones that weren't wet and gross, but the kind that curled toes.
I needed to stop looking at him in general.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“You jerk."

Grinning, he backed down the steps. "I'll see you at noon, Kitten."

"I hate you," I hissed.

"The feeling's mutual." He glanced over his shoulder. "Twenty bucks says you wear a once-piece swimsuit."

He was insufferable.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“She's a stupid-'

'Be careful what you say next.' Daemon's voice was low but carried. 'Because what you don't know and what you can't possibly understand will get a bolt of light in your face.'

My eyes widened, as did pretty much everyone's in the room. Ash swallowed thickly and turned her cheek, letting her blonde hair cover her face.

'Daemon,' Mr Garrison said, stepping forward. 'Threatening one of your own for her? I didn't expect this from you.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“Daemon arched a brow. 'Are you feeling me up, Kat? I'm liking where this is heading.”

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“You know what they say about boys next door...”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“I'm not leaving, Kitten. You're going to do this."
My mouth opened as did the door behind us. Stomach dropping, I turned to see Mom standing there in all her fuzzy-bunny pajama glory. Oh, for the love of God.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“Am I glowing?"
"Like a Christmas tree."
"Not just the star?"
The bed moved a little, and I felt his hand brush my arm. "No. You're super bright. It's kind of like looking at the sun.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“Because this absolutely insane - the craziest thing I'd ever done. Worse than giving a one-star review, scarier than asking for an interview with an author I'd give my firstborn to eat lunch with, more stupid than kissing Daemon.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“His hand rested above my hip, having a totally different impact on me. My skin tingled underneath the chiffon. Daemon cleared his throat as he glanced away. 'You...you look beautiful, by the way. Really too good to be with that idiot.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“I'm sure I look like a drowned cat."
"You look fine. The wet look works for you."
I scowled. "Now I know you're lying.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“You’re such an ass. Has…anyone ever told you that?â€
He flashed a genuinely amused smile. “Oh, Kitten, every single day of my blessed life.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“You're perfect for me,' I whispered in my own language.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“I didn't eat all of it."

"Oh, so it ate itself?" Dee shrieked so loudly I thought I heard the rafters in the ceiling shake. "Did the spoon ate it? Oh wait, I know. The carton ate it."

"Actually, I think the freezer ate it.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“Daemon stilled above me. 'I won't hurt you, Kat.' His tone was softer, but still laced with fury as he tried to control me without doing any real damage. 'I could never hurt you.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“I needed to get a grip. Or a camera to memorialize this moment, because I bet I could make a money from a video of him. I could make a fortune... As long as he didn't open his mouth.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“Daemon!" Dee called from the kitchen. "I need your help!"
"We should go see what she's doing before she destroys your kitchen." He rubbed his hands down his face. "It's possible.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian

Jennifer L. Armentrout
“My mouth opened as did the door behind us. Stomach dropping, I turned to see Mom standing there in all her fuzzy-bunny pajama glory. Oh for the love of God. Her eyes went from me to Daemon, completely misinterpreting everything. The glee in her eyes made me want to vomit on Daemon's head.”

Tom Argg..This was very close to next on my list. The whole what a jerk and treating Katy like a wet rag...doesn't sound appealing now. :(

Ah, but there is a reason for it. So read this, then read Shadows (Lux 0.5) and you'll get a better view. I was annoyed by the treatment a bit, but the book is actually very good.

Tom I had a lengthy conversation with Aestas about this. I have a problem with disconnecting from the characters in a story. Number 1 I'm a guy so I don't get to like the male because he's hot. Number 2 I lose respect for the female for accepting to be treated like a rag because a guy is "hot". I like to be absorbed into the story so when the character is far from the way I could see myself acting I don't enjoy it so much. Its still in the TBR pile just got moved down a bunch of notches.

Brooke Yeah, probably not your cup of tea, then. She's not really a strong heroine to be honest. It was a fast easy read and the guy factor certainly appeals to women more than it would men in this book.

message 5: by Tom (new)

Tom Most chick books really aren't just chick books. You usually don't have a heroine that says "I can't believe he likes me with this pungent bo i'm sporting and this big hump on my back"...haha

message 6: by Tom (new)

Tom The fact you said that it is a fast read peaks my interest. That def says something about the author style and the story...real important for me in liking a book.

message 7: by Tom (new)

Tom I came close to loving Beautiful Disaster because of the authors writing style. I was confused afterwards. I was like why did I like that I shouldn't have???? But I read it in like 2 sittings so the author sucked me in and kept me there.

Brooke Armentrout is a great writer. I have yet to read her Covenant series, but I hear terrific things about it, so it's high up on my list. Yes, very fast read. I did it as a buddy read, but we kept pushing forward and finished it in two days (had I had the time I would have finished it in one sitting, I'm sure). It's not long, so that helps. Go into it knowing you might hate the characters, maybe that will help???

message 9: by Tom (new)

Tom Will do!! Glad you enjoyed it.

message 10: by Lola (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lola I agree with you Brooke, Armentrout is a great writer. her books have that can't-put-down feeling and only for that I would already recommend it. I think kat actually has a few nice comebacks, I would actually describe her as a strong heroine. It's true that she does think Deamon is beautifull, but she also thinks he shouldn't be a jerk and tells him what she thinks about that. I really liked their bickering.
And the convenant series is really good too, although the first book does reminds me a bit too much of VA. But in the second book, that mostly disapears.

Brooke Lolita wrote: "I agree with you Brooke, Armentrout is a great writer. her books have that can't-put-down feeling and only for that I would already recommend it. I think kat actually has a few nice comebacks, I wo..."

I agree, she has some great comebacks, I think I said that somewhere :) She does have some redeeming qualities as far as a heroine is concerned, but I want to see her stronger. Maybe in the next book? Lovwe their bickering.

I didn't read VA, so I should be go on that first book :) I have a long list for next month! LOL!

message 12: by Lola (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lola thanks for the friend invite Brooke :).

I am looking forward to see how Kat develops in the next book.

And you should definitely read VA and the convenant series. Both are great!

Brooke YW! Both are on my list to read, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with Convenant first.

message 14: by Lola (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lola I think you will enjoy the Convenant more if you haven't read VA yet.

Brooke Good to know!
