Room by Emma Donoghue.

3 stars.
Reasons being:
A) Told from a perspective of a 5 year old boy. While descriptions are apt based on this
confined environment , his mention of boobs, penis standing and sounds of the creaking of the bed during Old Nick's visits is
annoying . Not expected from a child like him.
Jack lives with a grown up figure 24/7 , how come his dialogue is so infantile??
B) The novel could have been told properly had the mother's point of view being recorded . The part of the book which I enjoy mostly is when Ma got to be interviewed while in the clinic. She shows the strength of a single mother here and her resiliency in refusing to be intimidated by the questions thrown to her during the live TV interview. She has got my back here!!
C) Jack reaffirms me that nothing is impossible if the heart is willing . His daring escape and rescue leaves me challenged. The faith Ma instills into him is an icing to the cake. He is my hero while Ma is my source of inspiration!!

Kevin Ansbro I agree, Ruci. His infantile dialogue would have made sense if he’d been cooped up solely with another child from birth.
Fab review!

Ruci Tukana @ Kevin. Thanks!
