Y'all, I am Very Stressed because I don't know how to rate this book and explain my feelings on it. On the one hand, some sections (the very beginning and a few segments in the middle) were a little lackluster and a tad confusing for me. On the other hand, I'm currently spiraling down a meta rabbit hole about time-space continuums and alternate universes, so I think that's worth something.
As I've mentioned before with her other novels, Taylor Jenkins Reid has a unique ability to create deceptively simple premises that ask life's biggest questions, and she somehow leads you through a bunch of seemingly insurmountable obstacles before presenting a thought-provoking ending. Even though there's a point of view to all of her big life lessons, she leaves you plenty of space to draw your own conclusions and sit eyeballs deep in your own thoughts.
So despite some of my misgivings, I have to give it a rating on the higher end of my personal spectrum. Considering I'm reading this during the coronavirus pandemic, there's a lot of discussion right now about the idea of different timelines—that is, what we should've been doing with 2020 versus what we're currently doing as we quarantine and panic. Maybe it was just the perfect time, but I welcome Jenkins Reid's offer for introspection.
