bookshelves: comics-graphic-novels, not-recommended, trash, worst-of-2020, fantasy, ebook

This was just blatant bullshit. Sorry, there's not a single appealing thing about it. The story, maybe, if it wasn't for the terrible illustrations - which I couldn't decipher 98% of the time -, the unlikable characters and the unbelievable sexism and objectification of women. Why is this even considered a classic?

Wendy Can't say I've ever looked into the graphic novel side of Sin City but sad to hear it wasn't good!

Oh, have you watched the movie? If so, how'd you like it?
If the ebook version hadn't been for free at one of the bookstore chains here a few months ago, I probably wouldn't have read it at all. Judging it now, it wouldn't have made a difference. This was a total waste of time.

I believe I've seen both movies but can't remember too much of the second so who knows haha. The first movie I remember being interesting and original, although it's been a few years.

Oh well, that's unfortunate but doesn't speak in the movies favor, haha. But I actually could imagine that this story works better as a movie. Maybe I'll give a shot some time, even if the graphic novel didn't convince me.

Ludwig Aczel It's considered a classic first of all because it has very beautiful art. (There is a trick for when you cannot decipher an image, that I am happy to share with you: you look at the pictures a bit longer and with a bit more attention...)
The objectification of women is one of the basic narrative and visual ideas of the whole thing. And it is done very very well. That's the very point of the book, so I do not understand why complaining about it. It's like reading Moby Dick and complains that there are a lot of mariners in it. (Or reading the Mein Kampf and complaining that it spreads falsities about the Jews.) I totally understand that one may not want to see women over-sexualised and only portrayed as either hot smoking women in need of protection or hot smoking violent whores. (But in that case, why would you pick up a book famous for that?) But if one does want to see that, then Sin City is definitely a comics to check out.
And that's why it is considered a classic, I guess.

I respect your opinion and maybe I got the whole point of it wrong and didn't pay enough attention. To clarify: I knew nothing about "Sin City" when I picked it up, so that's probably on me. But I still didn't find the narrative appealing and like I already said, I'm not a fan of how women are objectified in here. And honestly, I don't understand why someone would want to see women objectified that much unless that person is a misogynist and only sees women as sex objects. So, even if that's the whole point of the story, I'm still allowed to dislike it and put my thoughts and feelings towards it out there, so other people can decide if that's something they want to read or not. I'm happy for you if you like/love "Sin City" but there's no need to get defensive about it.
And that "Mein Kampf" comparison is a bit extreme and inappropriate, don't you think?
