Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents

A masterful, infuriating, heartbreaking book! Wilkinson argues (and illustrates beautifully with dozens of stories) that we need to go beyond a racial reckoning and examine the structure underneath: “caste is the bones, race the skin. I believe my understanding of US History has deepened more from Isabel Wilkerson’s two brilliant, penetrating books than all the other texts I have read in the last several decades combined.

No, I haven't. I need to read both of these books. Everyone was reading "Warmth" when it came out. Not sure how it slipped by me. I need to read both books.

I've heard and heard or I should say, read review after review of Warmth and now of Caste. I think you read Warmth recently. I can get both easily from Audible (I have an amazing membership which allows me to trade in every book I read so I can use it like a library, the only difference being that I can get anything they have instantly ). So getting them is not my excuse; rather, reading books with relentless tragedy and heartbreak is not on the agenda for me now (won't bore you why). So, as much as I'd like to read these and many other books, they are on hold for now. This is one way we are not reading "twins." Oh, well. You are still a reading machine and I assume you have returned from the Adirondacks.

I understand Anne - and these both contain heavy doses of heartbreak so save them for another time. I've never heard of the Audible membership you describe! Yes, I've returned from the Adirondacks but I guess I am still a reading machine...

Why didn't you use the exchange policy? in previous years I didn't even know that exchanges were possible. I didn't read the fine print. Maybe this deal isn't for you, but it's perfect for me since I'm only doing audiobooks right now. With this membership I can try any book and not worry about whether I'll like it or not.
