really liked it
bookshelves: audiobooks, british-author, mystery

This was simply a fun, delightful book. I listened to this one on audio- Leslie Manville was excellent!!
We are introduced to 4 seniors living at a senior’s residence. They meet every Thursday to discuss old unsolved murder cases. A new challenge faces them when a real life murder occurs to someone involved in their complex. They are on the case! They do eventually let the police know what they are working on and collaborate to a point. I really like the two detectives, Donna and Chris, as well.

What I loved- seniors being useful. Sure they might have some health issues and others just look at them as “old, but they can still think. Elizabeth, the one in charge of the group, used to work as some kind of spy; Joyce is a retired nurse (hope for me!); Ibrahim was a psychiatrist and Ron a union negotiator.

There were lots of twists and turns before the cases were all resolved satisfactorily.

I loved spending time with these resourceful individuals!

Lori Keeton So glad this one was a fun one! I have wondered if I’d like it and you make it sound as if I might fall in love with the characters!

Antoinette Lori, if you need a lighter book that is fun and you end up loving the characters, this one is perfect. I’m not sure if you do audio, but absolutely perfect!

Lisa Antoinette, I fell in love with these characters too. I was a bit disappointed in the overall plot, however.

Canadian Jen I've been wondering about these ones as well. Glad it was a fun one, Antoinette!

Antoinette The plot was a bit flimsy, I agree, Lisa. It was the characters that were centre stage for me. I have heard that the books get stronger with each one.

Antoinette Thanks, Jen. This book was great for a change of pace. Refreshing!!

Lorna Great review, Antoinette. It sounds like a fun read with some interesting characters!

Antoinette Thanks, Lorna! It was great as an audiobook I must say!

Diane Barnes This is my latest fun series and I have enjoyed all four of them so far.

Antoinette I’ve got the next two on hold at the library, Diane! I think I read that a show was upcoming on the first! That would be fun:)

Tania I was very wary of this one, I rarely read celebrity books, but I do enjoy his TV shows, and he always came across as being very well read. (He has said Patricia Highsmith is his favourite author, and he's a big fan of Barbara Pym). I'm glad I took the plunge and have really enjoyed the series

Mark Porton This is my next fiction read Antoinette - your review has made me even more enthusiastic to pick this one up. Great stuff :))

Antoinette Tania, we don’t have his tv shows here. I am glad I started this series. There is an homage to Christie in this book.

Antoinette I hope you enjoy it, Mark. Lighter fare than you have been reading. A great change of pace!!

I almost picked it up today Antoinette - but I am so embedded in this Byzantine Empire quagmire (podcast + audiobook + book) I don't know what I'm doing. Cheers Markus Maximianus Maniakes the Pius III

Jennifer Welsh Listening to Osman sounds like a fun escape, Antoinette! Glad he delivered the twists and turns :)

Antoinette It was a perfect listen, Jennifer!

Mark Porton Now I've read this book, I can comment properly - great review Antoinette. Aren't they a fascinating bunch? Made we want to move to a smaller retirement village - but then again, not sure I could handle the politics and the lack of privacy. What do you think? Maybe in another 10-15 years?? Either way this is a wonderful book. Have you read #2 yet??

Antoinette This certainly sounded like a high end retirement home. No one minded being there so always a good sign! I’ll gladly wait awhile!! My husband’s parents just moved into one- they are 94 and 98!
I’ve got book 2 on hold as an audio- looks like it will be awhile though. May decide to get the book instead.
