When you need a little fluff and charm, The Thursday Murder Club hits the spot. The characters are enjoyable; and I especially appreciate the acknowledgement that elders can be quite sharp, savvy, and capable. The wit and humor make this time well spent, at least for me, as hours full of chuckles have tremendous healing properties.

The murder mystery part of this novel is pretty weak. There is so much that one must suspend belief for, the plot is needlessly convoluted, and there is at least one thread dropped.

This review should give you some idea of whether or not this is how you'd like to spend a day or two.

Ian M. Pyatt There seems to be many mixed reviews on this one so it’s tough to decide if I want to add this to my WTR list at this time

You might want to keep this one in mind for somewhere down the road when you want a chuckle and you can just go with a slightly overdone story.

Barbara K I love your review, Lisa. I enjoyed the book when I read it, but not so much that I’ve been tempted to continue with the series. “Unnecessarily convoluted is a good observation on the plot. I’ve read that the subsequent books are actually better than the first, so maybe someday

Barbara, I've been down with Covid, so this novel was a good antidote. A friend dropped it off with some chicken soup, a great pairing.
Good to know that the next in the series are better. I'm not tempted for now, and who knows about the future?

Candi I've had this marked but haven't been too anxious to get to it. I'm not sure your review has convinced me that it's one I need to read when there are soooo many waiting for me :D Thanks for your thoughts on this, Lisa :)

Candi, while I think you would enjoy the characters, I can see you rolling your eyes at the license Osman sometimes takes with his plot. I think there are enough books on your list that will serve you better, and you might want to let this one go.

Candi I truly do appreciate your help with this, Lisa!

Left Coast Justin You've solidified my position on these with your review, Lisa. Thanks!

Mark Porton Oh nooooooo Lisa!!!!! This is sitting on my Table of inconvenience, meaning it's an imminent read. Now I may have to return it to my bookcase - 3-stars isn't that good right?

Margaret M - (having a challenging time and on GR as much as I can) I was an outlier on this one and I have to admit I wish I’d enjoyed as much as so many others. I just didn’t connect with this. Plus Richard Osman is such a nice person I was sorry to have been underwhelmed by the book but happy to have met his characters and their wit

Diane Barnes I enjoyed this more than you simply because of the characters. Now that's an assisted living home that I could enjoy! Taking you away from Covid for a few hours while reading was a good antidote, along with the chicken soup.

Jeannie Nice review, Lisa. this sounds like something to read in between heavier stories.

I am happy that I can help you trim, albeit very slightly, that list. 😀

Mark, for me 3 Stars is a solid read; I liked it, didn't love it. I don't regret that I spent time with it. I think you would enjoy the characters and the humor. Only you know whether or not you could forgive the weakness in the murder plot.

Margaret, I did connect with the characters though was disappointed in the story. I am happy to have company here on 3 Star Island.

It truly was! Did you go on to read any of the follow ons? an did the plot get stronger?

Lisa Jeannie wrote: "Nice review, Lisa. this sounds like something to read in between heavier stories."

Jeannie, it was a lot of fun. I think you will be able to roll with the weak plot points better than I could. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it when you get there.

Ellie Spencer (catching up from hiatus) I have been meaning to read these books for so long, the characters sound so charming! Great review Lisa! 🧡

I am really curious to how you will view this one. Make sure you ping me so I see your review.

Mark Porton I can't argue with your 'fluff and charm' comment or the reader having to 'suspend belief' too Lisa, but I really liked this, almost gave it 5!! Great review my friend :))

I'm glad you have unreserved enthusiasm for this one my friend. I guess I'm too hard nosed to just go with the flow of some of the things in this plot. And I am open to trying out Book 2 at some future time when I need a light read.
