I feel like i understand what the book was trying to 'do' here, so a 1 star mightttt feel a little unfair... but i had just the absolute worst time reading this story.
There comes a time when you have to take off your 'critical reader hat' and let yourself rate things based on enjoyment, and this is a 0/10 - you couldn't pay me to read it again

I completely agree Lily, I literally could appreciate the book for like � its style I guess? But I hated it so much.

The translator Deborah Smith essentially rewrote the novel and many Korean language speakers have criticized her decisions. I think that impacts how it comes across.
Yeah, translations can really make or break a novel.
It would be cool to look more into what exactly was changed in that case, to see if it was more a matter of a poor translation or the book itself :/ Bad translations are such a shame for the authors.
Agreed, especially the last third where it became boring as well as miserable
