The Path of Daggers (The Wheel of Time, #8)

Sorry in advance for the incoherent nature of this review: I am tired and I have loads of work to do so let's get this over with.
First off, what the heck was that structure? This didn't feel like one book's worth of narrative, but rather a bunch of vignettes mushed together in order to advance the plot. The beginning throws you in head first into the action and it feels like an epilogue to the previous book and from there the narrative is really segmented and it feels as if the segments are not related at all. Same thing can be said for the ending: it is really abrupt and just feels weird as if Jordan said "alrighty, that seems like enough for this one". Did I enjoy being thrown off my tracks with having Faile and gang made Gai'shain? Yeah, but then why did we have that one last chapter that ends with people talking about dreams? It felt super random.
Do I think that this is as "sloggy" as I expected? Frankly, no, I thought it would be much much worse. On the other hand, this was nowhere as exciting as the previous books. I know it goes only downhill form here, but I really hope not by much.
I also don't think that almost anything was done with any of the characters except for maybe Rand and Min.
So yeah, those were my thoughts on book 1 of the Slog. *pats self on back*

"Not as bad as I thought it would be... much smaller scale and slower pace than last one but manageable... idk like a 3 stars for now or a 2.75 but compared with what I heard that isn't bad at all I think."
