Drew The Reviewer YA. the writing and story felt mature to me. a way u can tell is that it is a really long book with kinda tiny font, usually smaller font is more mature lol like ever notice how adult fantasy is like a bible

Melissa Carter ohh tough one. I'd say YA, theres definitely themes there. But then again I always thought The Keys to the Kingdom was YA until i looked up the age range and its solidly MG

destiny ♡ howling libraries Thanks for the input, guys! I'm gonna have to think on this one. Lol and Drew, you're right, adult HF always kind of reads like a bible hahaha

Sarah A-F I'm 2 months late on this but it just popped up in my feed: I say YA because I feel like it gets too violent and mature to be MG?? But that's just my opinion!

That's a really good point! The more I think back on it, the more mature it does seem. I'm thinking YA, too!

Tacey Raye I consider all the books in the series to be YA but I was about 10 when I started reading them.

Corrie-Ann wrote: "Definitely YA. But that doesn't mean someone in the MG range, cannot read - and enjoy - the books."

Thank you both for the input! I'm definitely rethinking my long-time belief that these were MG. I'm no longer 100% sure WHY I ever determined they would be MG in my mind, lol!

destiny ♡ howling libraries Corrie-Ann wrote: "Our mind's are funny things! I can see how one would think it was MG. Paolini wrote them at such a young age! Personally, if you enjoy them, that's all that matters. :)"

Very true! :)

Kristi I would say MG-YA, meaning it’s between middle-grade and young-adult (Age range 10-14)

Kristi But I’m leaning more towards the MG side

That makes sense to me, too. Thanks, Kristi!

Auntie Terror I'd go for YA, though the style might be MG fan fiction. ;-p *I apologise to all Paolini-fans but I read it for the first time this year, and I was very much under-impressed with this "boy-wonder of fantasy". I've seen other very young authors do a lot better. ^^' *

Lol! That's fair, in my opinion. I loved it so much as a kid but I tried rereading it this summer and DNFed it in less than 100 pages. Maybe I'll try again someday because I've heard the series gets better, but honestly, the writing doesn't hold up at all for me as an adult.

Sarah Likes Robots Honestly, Destiny, if you don't like painfully cliché epic fantasy tropes and women whose only purpose is to get rescued, you probably shouldn't read this

HAHAHA awww Sarah! Yeah, I read this one a lot as a kid and tried to reread it last year and WOW. It was so painful. :( It broke my heart! You're so right, though.

Derryn I’d say like Harry Potter it starts at MG and then grows with the reader to YA 🖤🖤

Ahhh, thank you! That makes sense :)

Jackie ÏŸ Bookseller The bookstore I work at shelves this series in YA- not sure who determined that, but it's usually according to the publisher's suggestion.

Thank you, I hadn't thought about it like that!
