Michael Took me a LONG time to read this book.

He's good, but damn it's exhausting reading his stories.

Rebecca Mann I've had this book about ten years, been sitting on my shelf. I had read a few of the stories, but I've decided to finish it this year! I also have the Eldritch Tales one as well. Even the stories that are about 10 pages take ages to get through, but I am enjoying them!

Michael I went through the same scenario, I had it as an ornament for many years before I tackled the cumbersome thing! 😁

Kurt Lovecraft's stories, you either love them or hate them. His writing is deeply intellectual yet unnervingly disturbing to the point where it does get somewhat cumbersome. Sometimes one has to wonder while reading his stories, is this really horror? But that was Lovecraft's way of distracting you, to get the reader's mind to disengage from the fact that while one is reading, Cthulhu's writhing tentacles are slowly enveloping your very soul.

I am enjoying the stories, but there is a lot of similarity with some of them. My next one to read is At the Mountains of Madness which is quite a long one, but I am looking forward to it!

Kurt That's a good one!! One of my favorites!!!

Gareth Is Haunted Good luck. I have a love hate relationship with Lovecraft. I do enjoy his descriptive writing, it's second to none but I often get to the end of a story feeling like it had no real point or conclusion.

I am enjoying the stories. Have been reading this book for a long time, I like to space the stories out between other reads! I've had this book for over 10 years now and have decided that this is the year I'm going to finish it!

I'm exactly the same. I have The Whisperer in the Darkness which is also a collection of stories, I seem to read one every now and then.

Michael What story has been your highlight so far?

There's been a few that I have really enjoyed. Herbert West - Reanimator, The Colour Out of Space, The Call of Cthulu, The Shunned House, The Whisperer in Darkness, The Dreams in the Witch House. I'm currently on At the Mountains of Madness which I am enjoying so far!

Kurt I finally bought a copy of this! I have pretty much every story Mr. Lovecraft has written but not this edition. I will be reading this shortly, it would be nice to revisit some of these stories!

It's a great collection. I also have the Eldritch Tales collection, they look great on my shelf together!

It took a long time but finally completed it! There are some great stories in there that I know I will be returning to in the future.

Michael Congrats on finishing this lump.

You should try the Poe one now, if you haven't already. 🙂

It does feel like an achievement completing it! I do have The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, but I think I will read Eldritch Tales: A Miscellany of the Macabre next!
