"...they were evil things - mountains of madness whose farther slopes looked out over some accursed ultimate abyss. That seething, half-luminous cloud background held ineffable suggestions of a vague, ethereal beyondness far more than terrestrial spatial, and gave appalling reminders of the utter remoteness, separateness, desolation, and aeon-long death of this unfortrodden and unfathomed austral world"

Simon Mountains of Madness is my favourite Lovecraft story. Don't know if you've got there yet. Del Torro nearly made a film but shelved it because it was too similar to Prometheus.

Yes, that was the previous story. I enjoyed it, didn't know that about the film, that would have been interesting! The next one to read is The Shadow Out of Time.

Simon There are some CGI test clips on youtube (i think).. Tom Cruise was attached to star but it all went wrong. I guess the stories are similar. There is a really good audio version (also you tube) read by Richard Coyle, he's perfect for it, sounds a little Richard Burton.

Thats a shame that it didn't happen but maybe it could still be made in the future. He did do those two Lovecraft stories in Cabinet of Curiosities, so maybe it will be something he will return to.

Ի✌️ One of my fav authors! I read many of his wonderful books as Mountains of Madness and The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, but I never dealt with the complete work, a challenge I would like to face someday.

I've had this book for about 15 years and had read a few of the stories, but decided that I would finish reading it this year! Some very good tales, you can see how influential he has been to the genres of horror and science fiction.
