Probably one of the slowest reads I've had this year - but in a really good way. I'm always reading thrillers, romances, and other dramatic things. It's nice to read something a little slower and a little more light.
A SHORT PREVIEW:
In the idyllic retirement village of Coopers Chase, set against the backdrop of rolling hills dotted with fluffy white sheep in the English countryside, a group of witty and spry residents have formed an unlikely group: The Thursday Murder Club. Solving murders to pass the time the same way others might knit for fun, the excitement comes to a head when a real-life murder happens close to home. Then as more bodies are discovered and 30-year-old mysteries come to light once again - can this group of brilliant minds catch a killer?
MUSINGS:
- I never thought I would read about spunky septuagenarians/ octogenarians solving crimes.. but this was so cute in so many ways!!
- I also found myself constantly laughing because the elderly characters get away with such ridiculous things or say and do things we all know our Nans have done!
- So often, when you read a blurb, the story transforms into something distinctly 'other' than what you thought you'd be reading. This is not one of those times. From the blurb to the end, it's exactly what I thought it would be and wanted.
- This is a true murder mystery and not a thriller. So many of the books I've read in the past year that have a mysterious vibe.. are also thrillers, and while I love them, I'm glad I read something a little slower and a little different.
FAVORITE QUOTES:
- 'I remember dabbing at my mouth before I answered, like you see on television sometimes. It makes you look clever, try it.' - I immediately laughed when I read this because I can just imagine an elderly lady throwing out this council unbidden.
- ' My daughter, Joanna, has a therapist, although you'd be hard-pressed to know why if you saw the size of her house.' That dry British humor again.
- ' He's all the things that can go wrong with men if you leave them to their own devices.'
NOTES:
- TWs: almost none. Just sweet/sassy old people.
- 361 pages (which isn't long, but there are a lot of layers)
- Definitely diverted my attention when I was having a more spastic day. Always appreciate a book that can do that.
- I didn't see the ending coming in almost any way, which was pleasantly surprising, and felt like the story really ended right where it needed to.

"Something really so amazing about dry British humor. It's not necessarily crass or shocking like American humor? More witty and absolute in a sense?
....almost like they'd look at you over their half-moon spectacles and give you a half smile to let you know they too, had a laugh... but on the inside... but were much too posh to laugh out loud. (**the horror of it**)"

I'm glad you liked it too! I definitely didn't expect to like it so much.

Thank you! I just loved their little old people's sassiness!

It was really cute!

Its definitely a cute one!

Crisp is exactly how I would describe it as well!

I'll have to snag the next one soon!
