this was a pleasant surprise. i truly wish i could say this book was perfect. in almost every aspect, it definitely gave off an amazing energy and the writing was absolutely impeccable. this book was able to shatter my heart while at the same time put it back together. i was so immersed within the world of caraval and everything! this is the one instance where i enjoyed the insta-love.

every scene with scarlettjulian was amazingly written. need i say more? i feel like every scene that was considered intimate felt like so much more to them which was so touching to me. it was like the way they understood each other went farther than words could describe. i will never get over the way julian protected her and cared for her despite the risks he knew he was taking. with every plot twist i felt a part of my heart shrivel up but this book always knew how to make me feel better. the conflict was solved a bit too fast for my liking but i’m so excited to continue this trilogy! i haven’t written a long review in a long time but i hope this covers up everything to explain my rating

i feel like there were times where scarlett came off as too stubborn and prioritizing her sister made her feel denial for anything else. don’t get me wrong, i definitely loved her dedication but i thought there were times where she was too much abt it. when she refused to admit saving her sister wasn’t her greatest desire despite the odds fighting against her while buying a dress. i didn’t like how she refused to have any other answer and decided giving 2 days of her life was better. i also thought she would stretch how much she actually cared for her sister and it was a bit much.

another thing that irked me was how they often brushed over the romance by adding in the mystery aspect. it was like with every romantic thing that happened, something just had to come along to prove that tella would always be more important than julian was to scarlett. it was like a constant reminder that they had better things to do rather than cherish the scenes that they shared.

to add on, the reunion between tella and scarlett was so disappointing. i legit started crying the moment tella trusted “legend�� over scarlett bc despite everything scarlett went through and how much she prioritized her, it was sad seeing tella wouldn’t do the same for her. it just shows how truly different they were & the miscommunication between them killed me. i expected so much more from them given how they are sisters and claim to love one another

as i’ve mentioned before, i loved the writing SO much. it was so easy to get lost into the writing and despite the beginning being confusing, everything else i loved. i also felt that the slow burn was the perfect amount. it was excruciating but i still ate up every scene with them 😋 anyways my love for julian expands to the end of the world. he was literally the definition of perfectly written—from the way he strutted as he walked to the nickname “crimson��.

i loved scarlettjulian so much more than i expected to in this book!! however, their reunion was just disappointing. it was just heartbreak as a way to put off the romance until the very end. and the fact that julian stopped calling her crimson? i couldn’t believe it. it was like none of them knew what to say and just kept making everything worse. however i did like how their reunion ended. they were just amazing. i still can’t believe the ending. it was so sad to learn that the role he played as an actor was different than who he actually was. i sympathized with scarlett and how she felt.
