it was amazing

I do not tend to give a summery of the plot in my reviews as there are many who can write much more articulate accounts that are probably much more useful. Instead, I like to think of my book reviews as more of a literary diary and to that end ,the last couple of books I have read have been a revelation in terms of being made aware of the depth of emotion I can experience whilst reading.

There were times in ‘The Story of New Name that I felt I could no longer stand the intensity of Lenu’s and Lila’s tangled relationship . My emotions ranged from exasperation and anger as I felt so incensed by Lila’s cruelty towards Lenu and Lenu’s own submissiveness and sense of low self worth. Then other times such anxiety ,pity and towards the end sorrow for Lila ‘s circumstances. Ferrante has a style of writing that involves the reader to the point that you becomes so immersed in the claustrophobia of the setting, the violence of macho-patriarchy and the revelations of Lila's life that give an overall febrile intensity to their story. Another 5* read from me, but going to wait a while before the next instalment.

CoachJim Megan, that is an excellent review and a method of writing an review. A reader can get a plot summary from the synopsis. Your review is much more revealing about the book. Especially for me the emotions, violence, and intensity you experienced from reading the book, as you mention.

Happy to see you are enjoying this series.

Megan Gibbs CoachJim thank you, I always feel rather nervous when reviewing such an acclaimed book, really appreciate your comments.

Annette Wonderful review Megan.

Antoinette This book had a strong impact on me as well. Your words described it so well. I read them all and loved them all.

Megan Gibbs Thank you Annette/ Antoinette .

Lori Keeton I loved reading your literary diary about these two exasperating friends. I think it’s a definite sign of a well written book when we get so emotionally invested in the characters lives. Sometimes it’s hard to separate real life from their lives. But, oh, how much fun it is to be in the midst of the intense story! Fabulous review, Megan!

Carmel Hanes It's a sign of a good book when you need a break from the next installment. I've heard of this grouping, but have yet to delve into them. Thanks for your compelling thoughts.

Megan Gibbs Bless you Lori, I loved your review too 😊

Megan Gibbs Carmel, I’m sure you will be just immersed as I was. Thank you so much for comments.

Diane Barnes Excellent review Megan. Your literary diary is so full of great books already. Definitely a good idea to take a little break and come back refreshed in a few months.

Candi I have to agree with CoachJim! My favorite reviews are the ones that tell me the emotional experience the reader has, as you have here, Megan. Wonderful review!

Megan Gibbs Candi, thank you I wanted to convey this so glad I succeeded. 💕

Wyndy As I said to Lori, I’m so happy to see new friends reading one of my favorite series. And loving it! (Maybe “love/hate right?)

Megan Gibbs Wyndy, I truly love it!!! But I know exactly what you mean, I have never read anything like this before, so utterly compelling.

Debbie W. I'm with Jim! I much rather read your personal thoughts in your reviews than a book report.
Obviously, this book really sparked your emotions. Well said!
