Rachelle The writing was pretty but it started dark and got more depressing as it went. I enjoyed it for the writing style, but you’re really not missing that much.

It's really dark. Not what I expected at all. It is good, and I'm glad I finished it...but you've got to be in a mindset for it. If you're not feeling it - you definitely did the right thing!

Jasmine Glad I'm not the only one that didn't vibe with it. It was a lot darker than I was expecting.

claudia reads it all I didn't like it, either. Just depressing stories all over.

Alex I felt this way around this point as well, but it does pick up and become slightly less depressing/more eventful at about 60% in, which is not the best lol. It's a book I'm glad I finished but probably wouldn't recommend.

message 6: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I tried reading this twice and finally gave up.

Ellen I loved this a lot but with everything I can also see why someone wouldn't!

Allie | livingskieslibrary Didn't like this one either. I finished it, but I kinda wish I didn't. Got super dark and made me super depressed :/ The only thing this book has got going for it is the cover

Julia Gerashchenko Shall I preemptively dnf it🤔 like, before starting😅

message 10: by Dodau (new)

Dodau Emily, sorry to put this here but you don't accept messages. The Jodi Taylor book you have, you really need to read at least some of her other series (St Marys) to understand it. Best wishes and you won't regret it.

message 11: by Pam (new)

Pam I read it for book club. You made the right decision to dnf it.

message 12: by Joselyn (new)

Joselyn Donovan I got to 50% and finally said F this

Frank Phillips this sounds very polarizing...so many rave reviews, yet also several DNFs and low scores....torn on if I should give it a chance!

message 14: by Tina (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tina Panik Try it on audio—the reader brings it to life. I tried the print book twice and gave up before switching formats

Erika I loved this book!

message 16: by Lois (new)

Lois I tried twice and thought to myself, I can spend my time which I value reading books that make me enjoy reading, this felt like getting homework assigned along with 2 projects on a long weekend. I had high hopes that like a leaky balloon sank very quickly
