it was ok
bookshelves: fantasy

Honestly this book was barely 2 stars, it was super slow and the ending was very contrived. It hald my interest for about the first quarter and then is just got really boring.

This book seems like it is trying to be a classic and fantasy book both at the same time, however it doesn't do either particularly well.

Joel I find that I agree with you about roughly 0% of books.

Andrew Obrigewitsch LOL

Andrew Obrigewitsch I'm sure there has to be something we agree on. ;)

Joel Certainly not Scientology.

Andrew Obrigewitsch I personally try not to knock something until I've read/see/done it, because I like to form my own opinion on subjects, books, movies etc. And I never knocks someones religious or philosophical beliefs even if I have read the actual materials they are based on and disagree with them, because trying to argue with someone about religion/philosophical ideas is an argument that no one will win.

Joel Ah, as far as a 'knock' or 'dig' goes, that's about as light as I get. But your point is valid. Though, I think mine is as well - you seem to hate on damn near every book I hold dear, yet praise something I am far from a fan of. It's about as good of an example of our being opposites, at least in the book world, that I can find.

Andrew Obrigewitsch We both like Sanderson (I've read almost all his books except 2 Alcatraz books and met him), Glen Cook and Sullivan. I think we rate things a little different too, I go by what goodreads says, a book you think is ok is 2 stars and if you like it, it's 3. So my 3 stars probably = your 4 stars. I only give a book 5 stars if I think it was one of the best books I've ever read, which is quite rare.

And sometimes for well known stuff like Martin's books I tend to point out what I didn't like, even though overall I like the series, just getting tired of the story moving so slowly.

Joel Kind of a short list considering how many books the pair of us read. I'll admit that I read a lot of your reviews (you pop up frequently on my update feed) and get a bit defensive of books I like, though I feel that you are a much harsher reviewer than I am. Which is fair, you rate things how you see em, but it's definitely kinda awkward to feel like your favorites are being constantly put down :)

Andrew Obrigewitsch Are you jut getting my reviews for the stuff you've read or other reviews for all the classics I'm reading as well?

Well that was just a cursory look and the funny thing is that even though we both read a lot of books, we haven't actually read a lot of the same books, here is the rest of the books we have both read:

Fuzzy Nation We both liked it.

Roger Zelazny Amber We both liked.

Kevin Hearne, Houned you liked, I hated, but I decided that I don't like Urban fantasy in general, so it's no big deal there.

David Eddings Had I read him as a teenager I would have loved him, but as an adult and after reading a ton of other fantasy it felt like I was reading the same story for the 15th time.

No Country for Old Men You loved it, I thought it was OK, I just found the villain to be too invincible.

American Gods we both didn't like that, I don't know why I have it at 3 stars, it's really a 2 star book.

Ender's Game we both liked.

We need to read more of the same stuff, so what do you highly recommend as some of the best books you've ever read?

Mark Not worth reading? These authors have just come across my radar.
